I used to be big on Eb standard, but after joining my current band last summer, I've gotten hooked on D standard. It adds a some growl on the low and open chords, but still also allows for some twang to ring through.

Drop A 7 string which covers drop A and standard in the same guitar

Drop C#

E and Eb. On the rare occasion, I tune down to D.

D standard and drop C. sounds great and i don't break strings.

My Rampage and Promod are in E, my S-500 is in Eb. After years of playing drop tunings, E sounds so sharp to my ears so I love it. Eb is on my S-500 so that I can butcher Little Wing.

Drop A on my sevens and D Standard/Drop C on my 6's.

You keep your tuning up higher it forces you to sing at a lower register thats more comfortable. If you drop your tuning your still straining on the high end cause you will be singing close to the same area you were before with only like an extra half step or so of room.

I definitely understand what you're getting at and don't disagree.
Basically for me its not a complete shift in/out of range dropping down.
Actually I intentionally write in E standard and make sure I can hit the notes.
Dropping it down to Eb after that just makes it overall more comfortable hitting everything live.

Eb and drop Db exclusively. We tried D and drop C a few weeks ago and I loved it but the rest of the band did not like it much so we are back to Eb/Db now.
