I think the production is pretty rough. To me, it sounds like you threw a zoom or something recorder in the room while the band was practicing. The song itself is cool, and the vocals make me think A LOT of Chuck Schuldiner, so I dig those aspects of it. But yeah...the production being what it is....not something I'd ever pay for. Im not even sure what specifically to tell you to fix because it really just sounds like you threw a zoom h1 in the room and had the band play the song.
Now that Ive read the whole thread, it makes a lot more sense lol. Any reason for you not to get an actual mic? They even make cheap USB mics that would probably do a lot better than what youve got going on here.
Honestly, the song is fucking SICK dude...I mean everything about it, drums, rhythm guitars, leads, vocals....but you're shooting yourself in the foot with your recording methods. Production and guitar tone is a HUUUUUGE part of why I listen to stuff. I think theres an art to that aspect in its own right. No matter how good the music behind it is, if the production sounds like this, to me, its unlistenable. On the other side of that coin, if the production is phenomenal and the music sucks, I wont listen either. But thats just me....

You rip on guitar man, awesome song too. The production reminds me of old school black metal. I don't think it sounds bad, but its lo fi compared to the overproduced stuff that is in fashion right now.

thanks for the feedback raf, i'm really glad you dig the tune.

the reason i don't ever post up things like NGD or have any really cool gear is because we've been saving up for the past couple years to get my wife eyeball surgery. she actually goes under the knife next thrusday (

so i'm just trying to get the songs down and available for people to listen to. i know that with what i've got i'm not going to turn any audiophile's heads or anything, but i would like to get the best out of what i've got. i know it can be done, i just need a little advice and direction from you guys with a bit more experience. ususally what i hear on recording forums n' such are "FUCKING QUITE MAKING MUSIC UNTIL YOU CAN UNLOAD $4000+ DOLLARS ON TOP OF THE LINE MICS INTERFACE AND PRO TOOLS!!!! and i hate that shit.
anywho, the usb mic wouldn't do me any good because i'm having to use an iRig for everything, and i really just have to use it to do vocals now and those are going to sound like weird anyway cause they're the coming out of my mouth

as for the drums, thanks for the props on the playing. i've been teaching myself how to play them for about the past year or so just to get these recordings done and nothing else. they would sound a lot better with a real drummer playing them though, for sure.
one thing no one has mentioned is the bass. any thoughts on that?
sorry for the novel.
thanks
