A lot of this is really great. I think I'm into more of the upbeat stuff though. Would that be considered Stoner as opposed to Doom?

This one sounded reminiscent of an old favorite of mine. If you're gonna borrow from the past, this is a pretty good way to do it:

Yeah the main dude in Orchid makes no qualms about trying to basically be Sabbath. And old school Sabbath is in a sense the definitive "doom" - Master of Reality in particular is kind of like the blueprint for what followed in that genre. Doom went a lot of directions in the decades that followed so there's lots of variations that are way less "upbeat". Much like something like Maiden or Priest are sort of definitive "Heavy Metal" but the genre really got pushed since then. So modern bands like Orchid, Graveyard, Kadavar, etc. are very much "doom" but in the traditional sense. One can only imagine the headscratching that results from some one saying "I'm into doom" (thinking of something like Pentagram or Cathedral for example) and getting recommended Sunn O))))), Hooded Menace, Conan, Skepticism or Autopsy - all very different bands that all fall under the "doom" umbrella.

A nice stoner/desert vibe with some psychedelic and blues thrown in. I've been listening to this record a bunch the past few weeks.

While I have to drive at least 2 hours to ever see a show that doesn't blow.

Though, I think Chimaira is playing my local shithole later this summer. They aren't my favorite, but it should be a fun show. And seeing Emil Werstler play life should be pretty cool.

None of the doom/stoner bands ever come through here. :(

That's a bummer. But that should be a cool show :thu: . I'm glad I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in Colorado, I'm pretty anchored here, there are very few other places in the country I could see myself living in

I spent a LOT of time in Colorado growing up. Camped all over the state and spent a total of 8 weeks over a couple summers working a camp in the San Juan mountains. I love it out there. Always kicked myself for not moving out there after HS, but ah well. Life's worked out alright.

If I had grown up there I couldn't imagine having to move unless it was somewhere pretty damn similar. :thu:

Just saw some epic gear in action, some verellen and a full atlas cabs backline  sounded epic

And the band using it Catholic Girls
, I highly recommend. They're basically a hardcore band with massive doomy meltdowns
