The 4th gen iPad is pretty killer. It is still heavier than I'd like but the performance is great -- wifi, graphics, CPU, I/O to the flash memory, battery life -- all great. If you can, you might want to hold out until the next rev because the next gen is likely to be lighter and thinner with the same specs. But you can't go wrong with the 4th gen if you don't want to wait.

But...considering your transport needs, waiting would is probably the way to go.
