Opeths Heritage 2 years later

Post by jnurp »

Is still a total piece of unlistenable shit to me. probably the biggest disappointment musically to me from any band that meant anything to me. Opeth are top 3 band all time to me, heritage is the worst album I may have ever listened to with the exception of the song Slither. Just absolute rubbish and useless periods of time just freejamming random shit. I could go on for hours why this album is such a stinker.
amps:

Boss Katana 50

I will have to give it another listen - it's been a while.

From memory:

Loved the playing overall but there was a lack of direction or something on the songwriting side
Liked the vocals
Guitar tone - some was good, some not so much

The songs just never stuck with me. I don't remember anything that I hated outright.

I actually liked the Storm Corrosion stuff better.

Sorry, but I love it. It is just pure old school prog to my ears and that makes me happy.

I'll have to give it another listen, but from what I can remember it was pure King Crimson worship. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just isn't a metal band anymore.

Well, sounds like we're all on the same page here, fellas... :cop:
"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

Maybe, it was an attempt to appeal to a non-metal demographic, or subtly sell out. Check out the Opeth concert on Mosh Cam. None of their heavy stuff is on it, and there's 25 mins of acoustic songs.

I was excited when I heard they wanted to do an old school prog album. I thought they'd really do it justice since Mikael practically worships the genre. Unfortunately it lacks any of the innovation you'd get from their influences. It just made me want to listen to real 70's prog, or real Opeth style...Opeth.

I'm also not a big fan of this recent trend of hideously underproducing for the sake of avoiding the other trend of hideously overproducing. Produce it to the point where it sounds good.
