Swapping valves

Post by Patsyn »

I got some vintage valves from 60s and 70s. Can I just swap out the existing valves out of my champ 600 super champ xd or sonzera 20 (provided of course they are the same valve for example 6l6) or is there more to it ? Thanks all

Also is it only the pre amp valves that affect the sound? That seems to be 12ax7 on the champ 600 and sonzera 20.

For power tubes, you need to bias them. Easiest way would be with a bias probe.

The preamp tubes can be swapped out.

As for which tubes affect the tone the most, preamp tubes are easier to notice. Power tubes have a more subtle impact unless you are cranking the amp into power amp overdrive.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.
