I Cannot Stand Rick Beato

Post by linthat22 »

Anyone else here get tired of seeing his stupid thumbnails and hearing his droned pontificating in his videos? Granted, he interviews some great guests, but my God has he gotten annoying.

I see Beato as the least annoying of the youtube musical prognosticators. I don't know that I ever need to see another of his videos where he's not interviewing someone interesting, but I'm glad his calmer non-reactionary non-bullshit version of musical diatribes exists somewhere as a counterbalance to the loudmouthed screaming idiot brigade that all seem to be wrong about twice as often as they're right, but they're very sure of themselves and really ragingly screaming about it.

Glenn Fricker = ChatGPT
Sometimes they're wrong, but they're very confident in their wrongness.

I may not agree with Beato's opinions sometimes... but at least he explains his position..... his musical breakdowns are some of my favorite videos to look at, although some of it will go over my head, most times its eye and ear opening as to why things sound the way they do etc...

Fricker can be mildly entertaining in his approach BUT he spews garbage and uses the "scientific process" in the most BS ways to "prove" his point....

I don't watch a lot of his stuff. When I do, I find him to be the least enjoyable part of the interview. Which makes it sad that he's one of the least annoying people in that business...

Rick can be tough for me to take at times but there are some others I find to be much worse. I'm talking to you, Rhett Schull.

Its a strange time for the guitar world. We seem to value the actual musicians who wrote and played some great guitar music less than those people who merely talk about it.

There's always going to be a popular YouTuber in your hobby that you love and someone else hates. It's generally for the same reason.

Beato song break downs are awesome. Flicker or wtf his name is just looks....LOOKS...like a metal gate keeper and I've never opened a video of his. Kyle Bull seems really nice but his content doesn't interest me. Most high gain amps sound very similar to me where as the lower gain amps are more unique to one another.

Smart and obviously talented, but he makes me think of a guitar version of anthony bourdein with 100% of the cool factor removed, and we're left with an annoying cloud ranter

small bits of his content I enhoy tho

I was in a sour mood when I saw his soyjak face and then his smug face I had to share it.

That being said, he does interview some great guests and I don't have an issue with him or his content, per sé, but yeah, he's annoying.

I consider Beato as a Music professor of online classes more than a YT personality. He's kinda boring, but if you sit through some of his What Makes this Song Great?, he really does introduce some production that I never noticed before. I like that he goes through a variety of artists too, not just some singular metal channel.

I have mixed feelings about Beato. He definitely knows music theory and has serious production chops and credentials. That sets him apart from a lot of YouTube guys that are basically local players or even bedroom warriors posing as specialists.

The same goes for Pete Thorn, Dave Friedman, Tim Pierce and a few others. Like them or not, these are guys with solid, top tier experience.

It's different from Rhett Schull, Glenn Fricker, Tone Wars, Phil McKnight etc, which are just some random guys with local, semi pro experience at best.

So I give Beato a pass for actually knowing what he's talking about. That said, his personality can be abrasive and I can only take his channel in small doses. When he is interviewing someone I like or talking about a topic I'm interested in, I watch it and I usually actually learn something from it.

But I don't follow his channel just for the sake of following him.

I like and respect him a lot. I have never judged his content based on the thumbnails. I like his honesty, taken aback by his knowledge and skills, envious of his ability to hear, appreciative of all that he shares, etc. I've learned from his videos. His videos have made me laugh. I would have never ever thought anyone would have a negative reaction to him and his videos. Different strokes, I suppose. If I ever see him I would tell him "Thank you very much!"

People that look to McKnight for gear advice and demos need to get their heads checked.... to me where he has useful info is from the industry perspective and repair work that's about it.

Love Beato. I don't watch any of the off-the-cuff chatting with followers stuff, but the interviews and song/genre breakdowns that are done with some production are top notch. He's the best out there for that.

You're not abrasive at all lol

Beato is fine for the most part, it's only when he gets on soapbox rants that is annoying
But to be fair he doesn't do too many videos like that. Most of his stuff is cool

Beato soapbox rant is still better than most. He at least comes from a place of knowledge. Not that I watch many of those, but at least it's not a shrieking lunatic screaming in my ear with zero potential upside for listening.
