File this query under "can it be done?" I guess.
Can I send my UA Volt audio interface L/R monitor out signals to the Stereo Effects Loop return on my Line 6 HD147? I do not have powered studio monitors (or a place to put them)...yet.
I cannot see why this might not work, but it doesn't seem to.
I am dumb, y'all are wise.Am I doing something wrong (aside from not using powered monitors)? I suspect I would disable any cab IRs as well.

Re: Can I send my UA Volt audio interface
Yes you can, but you need to the careful because the HD147 is not set up to handle the levels the UA interface puts out.
But keep the levels in check and you're fine as far as damage goes.
It probably won't sound great though. The HD147 has some filtering on the power section to make it more like a guitar amp. And your guitar speakers have limited range.
IMHO a good set of headphones is always the best solution for situations like this where space is limited.
Or maybe even a very small set of studio monitors. Even a pair of 3" monitors would probably sound better and more accurate than the HD power section.
But in terms of damage, it's safe as long as you don't crank up the output level on the UA.

Re: Can I send my UA Volt audio interface
Dammit. Fair enough. I actually did run a pair of 1/4" cables from the UA to the loop return (with all levels at zero) but got nothing when I turned things up a bit. The Line 6 owners manual seems quite specific about only rack mounted effects being used in this loop. Perhaps I assumed incorrectly that the interface was working with similar voltage/impedance levels as a rack mounted effect.
Even if it worked, I fully expected it to sound like krap.
For headphones I am using the AKG k240 Studio, and they seem to do the job. I would certainly be open to upgrading if anyone has a suggestion in that department.
Thanks for the feedback Billy. You certainly do know an awful lot of stuff about a lot of stuff, and I always appreciate you sharing it.
