Question for Mesa Mk VII guys

Post by Holy-diver »

Does your mark vii mode fart out with the gain up? This shit almost sounds broken chugging on it, every other mode on the amp is absolutely stellar

I don't have one, but I've heard several metal guys complain about the MkVII mode for high gain.

My guess is the amp is not meant to have 2 full blown metal channels. With Channel 1 being the cleanest, Channel 2 being voiced more towards classic/hard rock and Channel 3 being the modern metal channel.

I know a few metal players that have this amp and they unanimously told me that they wish Mark 2c mode was on Channel 2 so they would be able to switch between modes 2c and IV and get 2 different metal tones. But I guess the amp was not designed with that in mind.

Again, I don't own the amp but several people (that don't know each other) have told me that on separate occasions.

On the other hand, some rock players told me MkVII mode is a great crunch tone with the gain half way up (or lower). So maybe that's waists what's it's for.

I haven't had the chance to play one yet so this is all anecdotal, based on opinions from friends that do own the amp.

The thing about the mark vii is that it has a ton of gain, a fair amount more than any other mark series I have owned but it’s all usable. The crunch mode on channel 2 is great and can certainly deliver metal on its own with the treble and gain up but the mark vii mode just sounds kinda terrible lol it’s just shocking when every other mode is SO good. In fact I think this is my favorite mark I have ever played, and is maybe my favorite amp ever

Yup I’m one of the guys that told bill I wish 2c mode was on ch2. I don’t really like ch2 a lot. Crunch is cool, I guess, but why would I play that when the amp has 2c and iv modes.

I don’t like VII mode much. You can boost it to sorta get a recto vibe. But not quite. It’s it’s own thing and not really for me.
