NPD X too Many and now I have to use a bigger board.....

Post by Marc G »

got these about 6 weeks ago...

really like them and rearranged my board

I found the Timmy and Duke of Tone really excelled in the same kinda mid gain territory but different vibe, both great..... and when stacked I was able to get a decent enough high gain crunch, so I was pretty happy....

Fast Forward about 3 weeks later..... a friend was selling off his pedals to fund a Helix upgrade..... so I got this for a steal of a price...My god.... this pedal is amazing.... was able to get that 80s high gain brown sound right out the box...

Image

I was able kick the Timmy off my board and squeeze it on to my board.... All was right with the world.... till 2 weeks ago and this showed up on my local Facebook Marketplace for sale by a kid I know from gigging....

I got it mostly because I love fuzz and this being a discontinued pedal...so I wasn't really in a rush to try it out and it took me a few days to plug it in to my rig.... sweet jesus it's amazing.... great example of a germanium Fuzz Face....

This is where my problem started... I knew I couldn't fit it on my existing board and I couldn't replace anything that was already on there... so.... that meant only one thing..... back to the Mother Ship

I hope my back forgives me..... lol

Yeah the Wampler Pinnacle really lives up to its name. Amazing pedal. It seems like you have all bases covered with overdrive/distortion there, except maybe a Tube Screamer or SD-1, but I assume the HXFX has them in their software? btw, how good are the drives in the HXFX in general?

I've been thinking I should get a bigger board recently. For the longest time I've had this "rule" that I should stick with a Classic Jr board and that would be size limit for my effects rig, but it's a silly rule when I think of it. For instance I think I'd like to have both the SDE3000 and the DD-500 on my board. I even already have a bigger board here, I just need to populate it. :hmm:
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

I'm not a massive Tube Screamer user... though... it is a classic,, but the Boost Mode in the Duke of Tone has that mid pushed vibe to it right now that works for me..... and yeah if I REALLY needed that tone the dirt models in the HX can do a pretty good job... I A/B'd the OCD in the HX to my OCD pedal and with some tweaking you couldn't hear or feel the difference... I think the fuzzes aren't that great, but overdrives and boosts are solid and very useable

I love my Fulltone 69. It's a great fuzz. I really need to grab a SP boost. It's a pedal I always forget about when I am searching around.

Board definitely looks killer!

Are the Helix and switcher hanging off the left side of the board? Hard to tell. But if they are, it's obviously not large enough.

I barely use any pedals, so my board is small.

I can't stop buying pedals right now. I think I'm pretty stressed out and I'm trying to ease the pain with retail therapy.
Stuff I've gotten lately.
Boss VB2
Boss AC2
Boss DS2
Empress Echo System
Basic Audio Spooky Tooth Wedge
Solid Gold FX Imperial
Meris Enzo
Meris Mercury X
Spiral Demhe Fuzz
Skreddy Klipper
JHS Mary K

Another Wesley Willis Keyboard - Technics KN1000. This one does "They Threw Me Out of Church" and "Ford Windstar". I think it does "Larry Nevers and Walter Budzen."
