Arraiging Setlists

Post by screamingdaisy »

Anyone find a magic formula for arranging songs within a set that you like?

Traditionally, I've liked starting off slower, then gradually increasing the tempo/intensity throughout the set and finishing on banger... however this is making my current set list feel kinda weak at the beginning and I'd like to grab them a little harder, then pump the brakes before hitting the gas again. Thinking the 4th song might be a good time to pump the breaks?

I'm generally aiming for 3x 45-50 minute sets.
If you can't play good, play loud.

IMHO you need to start and finish the set with a bang since that's what most people will remember.

For the middle of the set, alternate between slower and faster songs. Too many slow songs in a row creates an energy drop that is hard to overcome.

I used to line up songs that ended in the same note/key as the beginning of the next song.
That way, the bass player or, second guitarist can start the next song while the first guitarist is hanging on the last note of the previous song.
It's a cool sounding effect.

Good opener and closer. I haven’t listened to Big Truck in a LONG time. Nice deep cut.
