Nuno starting some really awkward beef with Richard Fortus

Seems really... over the top

One would think Fortus has a pretty good handle on the situation seeing as he toured with Rhianna before Nuno, not to mention he was respectful in his response to Nuno. Then Nuno tried to pull the rockstar card and... well it wasn't a good look. Fortus had to earn his way on to Rhianna's tour as well as earn his spot in Guns. The dude is a legit bad ass elite player.

yeah I saw that on TGP. My only experience with Nuno was when we opened for Extreme in 2018. He was super nice and gracious to us, he was having problems with his rig so his soundcheck went for too long and we barely had time for one and he walked into our green room and apologized to us for that. Even though it was his show and we were just opening. He also asked me if I wanted to check his rig out, then came to the side of the stage several times while we were playing and gave the thumbs up, then complimented the band after our set.

He didn't have to do any of that. There were no cameras rolling or no one around, just the 2 bands and the crew. And he really went out of his way to make us feel welcome.
So I have nothing but praise for Nuno as a player and as a person, based on my personal experience with him. I think that show was the high point of my playing career so far, not only because of the great opportunity to open for one of my favorite bands but also because how well we were treated by the band, but especially Nuno. That's the show I will always remember and be proud of lol Honestly, we got better treatment from him than from a lot of the nobodies in local bands we usually play with, sadly.
I've met Fortus too, since he was endorsed by Line 6 when I worked for them. Another great player and super nice guy. No villains in this IMHO.

I bet him and Fortus could work this out in a second if they were actually talking to each other (in person) instead of going back and forth on the internet. The internet is an awful form of communication and a terrible replacement for a conversation. I think that's the problem more than anything. God knows that on my 10+ years as a forum admin I've met my share of really nice guys IRL that fly off the handle online. Like Roccaforte, for example lol... but many others as well. I doubt that would be more than a 5-second, uneventful topic in a real life setting.

Nuno will probably have to spend a lot of time explaining himself on every interview for a while though

Online/text shit always gets misinterpreted and overblown. To echo Billy, if him and Fortus get in the same room I bet this is squashed in ten seconds.

Anyway, I hear you, and I'm not hating on Nuno at all. Just thought it was a strange overreaction to Fortus' response.

That's really bad ass about the show too. I can't believe I missed it that first night in Vegas

^^^ I think the show you missed was with King's X. Extreme was in Anaheim, CA.
GGF was properly represented by Mike and Brolando though

And hey it the shoe fits, wear it pride, Cinderella

Not a good look for Nuno. Fortus has been in GnR for over 20 years and he preceded Nuno in Rhiannon's band, yet Nuno has never heard him play "one single note"? Hmmm. I'm not buying that.

I'm thinking maybe Nuno was just having a bad day. But hey, they're all getting some nice pub from it.

Irl maybe Nuno is cool, but in the old Guitar magazines, I want to say around the 90s he was ripping on other bands. Specifically I remember Red Hot Chili Peppers. And he seemed a little touchy about shit. His response here was WAY over the top. He better have been fucked up on some pills and booze. Lol. Just come out and say it bro.. cause then I’d understand. Lol

I have vague memories of that tiff. Was it aimed at Dave Navarro? I seem to think it was post Frusciante.

saw the Nuno/Fortus beef on UG ... i didn't even understand the point Nuno was trying to make :idk:

switching up styles and genres every night between songs is impossibly hard? my buddy in a yacht-rock band does it every night, and plays metal on the side.

i thought the same thing reading the original article, i worked for a big NYC wedding band that had a revolving door of guitar players that played random pop songs for three hours a night, a lot of times just off sheet music cause they didnt know all the songs for that evening, seemed pretty easy for all them, i didnt see any of them bugging about having to play Umbrella at least

Yet another example of why mem should stay off social media and go back to being stoic, distant and unexpressive. We're at our best when we don't talk much.

Yngwie’s column was ALWAYS the best

I used to love Dimebag’s too. Anyone remember when he challenged his readers to an exercise and offered to reimburse people for a 6 pack if they nailed it?? Dude gave out his address for people to send in receipts for reimbursement.

They were good. I remember one mag, not the exact one at the moment, had a feature called “Listening Room” and basically bring in other guitar players and just play em music, generally wide ranging, but usually well known still, and let the person comment. And THEN they’d say who it was. And then usually they start ripping em more. Lol.

And there’s definitely one with Yngwie I had. And memory is fading but I SWEAR one of the tracks was master of Puppets. And he sorta pretends he doesn’t know who it is, but isn’t ripping it much early on while it’s playing. And then the solo he rips of course. Then they say it’s Metallica and he’s like Oh, yeah they had some good stuff early on. I influenced them. Lol

Or somewhere in that ballpark. But I always read that section. Had some good moments

Yeah I agree. I think at first he said most guitar players could not play the Rhianna gig, which is nonsense. Shit, I could play that gig. Let alone Slash lol
Fortus correctly pointed that out and he was very respectful about it.

Then... :freak: I don't know what he's saying after that. I think he somehow read Fortus post as a personal attack and lashed out in return.
I don't see how that post could be misconstrued as an attack, it looks like Fortus post was meant to praise Slash, not attack Nuno. But I've seen this happen on the internet a lot, where a simple, well-intentioned post gets misunderstood and starts a huge argument.

Nuno is not new to this and should have known better though. I still think this is just a huge misunderstanding but it's not a good look for Nuno, especially given the propensity that a vocal minority on the internet has to hold grudges. He's going to be dealing with the backlash of this online for a long time lol

I wonder if Nuno's initial remarks were supposed to be in response to Greg Howe kinda smack talking playing for pop stars last week
