I liked the 1x12 the best but they are all not that great tbh. They're fizzy and sound very direct.

It would be interesting to load some better IRs by Bogren or York Audio and see how they work.

On the plus side it seems like the load part of the system is good, the amp sounded like it was reacting well to the playing dynamics, it just need better IRs I think but that's very easy to solve.

Yeah, they do have a sort of grainy quality to them. I need to figure out some good IRs to slap in there and try out lol.

Hopping on board with the 1x12 train...

Raf give the York stuff a shot, think you'll dig em.

They have a Mesa 2x12 pack that's like 5 of them and it's $1.

That pack sent me down the York Audio path, and even Billy liked them. I bought the Mesa 4x12, Bogner 4x12 and the VHT Fat Bottom cab packs based on the strength of what showed up in that one.

I may give them a try. I grabbed the Bogren rhythm pack, but the Mesa didn't come with a fucking USB cable lol...so I am waiting for that to get here. So dumb.

I liked it. Reminded me of why I pulled the 16ohm speakers out of my Recto 2x12 and put 8ohm speakers from a Recto 4x12 in it.

Also reminded me of why I liked the Standard cabs better than the Compact.

I had a Mini-Recto 1x12 for a bit, and although it sounded like a small 1x12 in the room it actually sounded pretty good mic'd up. I'd imagine a fullsize Recto 1x12 would be even better.

My theory with these is that Mesa is leaning towards live sound and is leaving more high end for the soundman to work with (would be interested in hearing other's opinion on this).

Yeah, I can see that. Especially since the amp doesn't have a silent recording option, I definitely think the cabclone implementation is meant more for live use in this case.

Oh yeah that amp has the cab clones. I can send you some I’ve found worked pretty good. The included Mesa ones are average at the VERY best. I think they take EQ pretty well but on their own…. nah.

Yeah, that would be cool. Thanks!

Yeah, they definitely aren't great. I find them to sound somewhat similar to most IRs I've tried in the past. Probably why I never got IRs to work well for me. I could see using the 112 IR here and there, but once I get my USB cable today (they use old ass USB port, like on printers lol) I will be able to change them out and see how well that works. I basically just picked the 8 that I liked best from the Bogren pack and plan to load those up. But I think I only actually liked maybe 4-5 of them lol. Just gotta try them out and see.

The official description of the amp does mention a silent recording option. My guess is that it's the same system the 5150 50w has, where the recording out comes from the preamp so you can put the amp on standby to mute the cab but the recording out will still work.
You still need a cab connected to it though, but it will obviously be muted in standby. Give that a try.

I tried it last night, but neither the line out or cabclone out produce signal in standby.

EDIT: Re-reading the 4579 page manual again, and it does say the amp has a build in reactive load for silent recording. It seems to imply I can just unplug the speaker cable, but I don't see this spelled out explicitly...

Welp...my USB cable came, and I loaded up a bunch of the Bogren IRs. Took about 20 seconds to do that...all that time just spent copying/deleting files from the folder structure already in place. EXTREMELY EXTREMELY easy to do. Here is the first clip with the Bogren BaldBeauty IR.

https://app.box.com/s/7fsk4alz69ubbln6bj5rhmnya0f68f7g

I did record this "silently" with the cab unplugged. Definitely made me a little nervous haha. Silent is in quotes because if it's dead quiet in your room, you can hear SOMETHING coming from the amp when you hit notes. Its SUPER SUPER faint, but something is happening in there. I'm guessing it has to do with the reactive load being...reactive.

Anyway, if I can find the right IRs I think this could be a recording method moving forward. Maybe even just a matter of EQing to get exactly what I want. Anyway, I think this sounds awesome, and the convenience is impossible to beat lol. I could even take this amp on vacation without a cab, or even to a show, I guess. Weird.

the last clip sounds huge for sure.. But I would say its too bottom heavy.. But idk.. Lol Apparently most aren't feeling that way.. But for sure you dial in more sub bass with the mark 7.. I get it! I really do, but thats what I'm hearing...

Awesome. Thanks. I am fucking around with this feature a lot. Starting down the right direction with it, I guess. We'll see how it plays out, but it's fun for sure.

haha I need to check it in the car, but yeah, that wouldn't be surprising. I don't really have it super high and it sounds balanced in the room. Also need to get more into the EQ matching thing that you were telling me about lol. So many things.

Alright, one more...dialed in a little less low end, and turned the dynamic EQ back on. Also used the Bogren Sound of God 2 IR. I am digging this quite a bit!

Definitely not as bloated as the first one. The sound of god is a pretty cool IR. I used that for a little bit. It has a good amount of highs that so many IRs seem to lack. Sounds good
