Mark VII clip

Post by NinjaRaf »

Figured I would start dialing in my mic placement for this thing a little bit better, and playing around with some dynamic EQ to bring things better into the mix. Here is where I have gotten so far. Probably still a little work to do, but right direction, I think!

Same stuff...Mark IV mode, Mesa cab, 2 M201s, Bauer strat with BG Brian Mason signature Hellabucker, but with a ceramic magnet. This amp LOVES this pickup. I've moved it around between 4 guitars and it sounds INCREDIBLE in each of them...so I have a few more of those on the way lol.

Anyway...open to feedback, as always...but I am certainly digging where this is going.

Added a third track with a Lewitt LCT240

Another version. I brought the presence down slightly, the 2200 slider up a little, and the 6600 slider down a little. Just been playing around with different settings a bit to see what's what.

definitely sounds better with the lewitt in there, the palm mutes though seem a little "softer" than normal is the best way i can describe it? maybe thats what endtime was describing in the last clip? im probably nitpicking but thats what i noticed

I talked to Endtime a bit more about what he was talking about. Maybe I put too much on the dynamic EQ. Trying to get familiar with using it. But also, I might attribute it to recording 3 tracks not as tightly as they should, so I need to get that resolved, maybe lol.

No it wasn't what I was describing. lol. I won't revisit it, but I feel pretty good in my old assessment. But different strokes for different folks!!

the 3 mic version is definitely better. The other one is slightly more garbled in the lows.. Or simply has more lows. Sounds pretty good overall. I agree maybe could be a bit tighter playing overall. I think now you just need to get the bass frequencies of the guitars and bass guitar to maybe not build up quite as much in the same areas.. That 75 slider on those Marks DEFINITELY can get intrusive on the bass at times.. And IM not even one who wants everything pristine down there.. I like a little sludge. Prolly you might too! It feels more death metal.. But in this case I think thats what attributes a :softer: sound..

It does sound like a matter of just moving toward the neck pickup a little on chugs for the clank, I fight with that shit all the time getting the right balance. It sounds great though anyway

Yeah, I can see some spikes here and there while exporting where there is a tiny bit of clipping, so I guess that's what is happening...too much build up between the 2. But yeah, you're right. I am also not looking for super pristine really in any area, I guess. Just looking for something that sounds good and balanced and doesn't have some weird shit going on lol. Getting closer. For sure, tighter playing. I have been sick all week, so I would like to blame that, buuuuuuttttt...I'm sure you can hear similar shit in my other clips. I struggle with this song being super tight for whatever reason. Just need to practice more lol.

Yeah, could potentially palm mute further up from the bridge and see how that goes. I will probably keep fucking around.

I do like what the Lewitt adds in this case. Could also be that that mic is softer in the low end, but I don't know if that's the case. First time I am plugging it in, so I haven't really listened to it on it's own yet.

But yeah, appreciate the feedback!

Sounds killer to me!! I do hear a bit of build in the low end but not in a bad way. Adds a bit of doom/sludge feel to the track. I like it a lot!!

Updated the Lewitt clip, trying to tighten up the playing a bit. I didn't fuck with the EQ or anything.
