anyone use an MXL R40? MF had a stupid deal of the day so thought id check it out. never used a ribbon mic so I’m curious what it will sound like.

I haven't used this one but I've used a lot of MXL mics and they're all good

Not sure what the difference is but I have the R80, it’s cool to blend with a dynamic for a little body.

I don't have a R40 but, I have the MXL R144 ribbon mic and I really have no complaints. I bought it to see what ribbons are all about and it sounds fine.

I also have the MXL Revelation tube condenser mic... the power supply has a hum that does not affect the recording... other than that, it also sounds fine.
