Not to be outdone by EJ’s amp build…

Post by duncan »

But I’m also building one too.

Brown channel from the Bogner Fish married to an improved 2204 power section.

Finished drilling all of the top holes today and mounted the transformers, choke, caps, board, and tube sockets.

I have a local laser engraver shop making the front and rear plates, and once those are done, I’ll drill out the front and rear.

I think Duncan has me beat here. My 'amp building' is just color by numbers following a layout.

That said, I might beat him on the cab building front so we'll see.

Curious about the layout - do you think hum will be an issue with having longer leads to/from the tubes?

To the preamp tubes? Possibly. I plan on using shielded cable for anything connected to a grid, but if I have to move the board some, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

It lives!

Still need to tweak it some (my voltages are pretty off still), but it sounds like it should.

Very cool! I don't have those skills so that makes it even cooler. Sounds good too.

Had a Fish modded Randall module for a while and it sounded great. Interested in hearing the final revision.

Ha thanks man. For how much I’m into this thing, there’s zero chance anyone would want to buy one, after any reasonable markup or compensation of time.

Sounds awesome. Is this your first amp build? I've done a shitload of pedals, but I'm hesitant to take the leap to amps.

Second one! Built a Trainwreck express circuit around Christmas.

Don’t hesitate. Just build.

Just don’t post over at ampgarage and be ready to be berated a bit at EL34world.

After running down some stupid wiring issues, and addressing some pretty gnarly oscillation due to poor lead dress, I’m ready to fire this puppy up again.

Fingers crossed.

It LIVES

Still need to tidy up a bit of wiring, bring a few toggles back into the circuit, and play with some voltages, but by god, the thing works.
