Going to the Dominican Republic, Anyone Been?
My work is sending their top salespeople from 2012 to the Dominican in 2 weeks and I just found out I'm going.
We're staying at THIS PLACE in Punta Cana.
I'm pretty stoked, never been on an all-expense paid vacation before.
Has anyone stayed at this resort, or in Punta Cana? Any stories, experiences, tips?

Punta canta is nice. I was in Puerto Plata in winter of 2011. It's a fun island. Crazy how it's connected to Haiti.

The resorts are nice. Stay in them and you're in paradise.
Outside the resorts, it is some tough sledding as poverty is HIGH.
We were @ Cayo Levanto (sp) and it was a great place and time.

the good thing about those resorts though is there is so much to do unless you REALLY want to see the rest of the island there isn't really a reason to leave.

Re: Going to the Dominican Republic, Anyone Been?
I went to Punta Cana for my honeymoon, and stay near the resort you're headed to. There are probably like 50 resorts in a 10 mile radius. The key things I would point out to you are:
1. The airport is a glorified thatched roof hut. And they'll charge you $10 just to get into the country. Fuckers.
2. Make sure you know which bus/taxi/etc you're supposed to head to, because it's sheer madness when you get out of the airport. There are tons of local drivers who will literally snatch the bag out of your hand so you'll follow them to their vehicle.
3. The ride to your resort from the airport is about an hour, and you'll see some of the most impoverished people and towns along the way. Also, they drive like crazy bastards there.
4. Dominican chicks are fucking hot.
5. Drink the rum. Lots of it. Coffee too.

AGREED about not leaving the resort area, it is a POOR country. Heart breakingly poor.
Cayo Levanto is actually an island, so once there we were there as there was no reason for us to leave. Great resort.
