Odd. My son turned 18 in May and got his jury duty notification in the mail yesterday. One week in November. I thought he was going to be mad but he actually took it ok. It's kind of fun, sort of.

There's two outcomes I was fine with having when I got jury duty:
Sent home in the first round.
Such a wild ride that I didn't mind.

That trial was such a trainwreck of fail that I have a stack of notes about thirty pages long that will someday be turned into a book. That dude had himself a real. Bad. Day. When you're six four-lokos into the night, and next day, and next night, there's no telling what shit you'll get up to.

There must be something about my name that implies I'm a good juror because I got summoned everywhere I lived. Twice in NJ, 3 times in CA, and once in NV, PA and now here. I was in PA for a little less than 2 years and still got summoned there.

You have that booming courtroom voice! When they are questioning you about your thoughts on the pre-interview process; yell "You can't handle the truth!" as loud as you can and you should be good.

They let you keep the notes? The two times I’ve been summoned, the State Of Wisconsin was very keen to get those notebooks back.

If six Four-Lokos is bad, imagine what will happen when they develop that fifth Loko.

My number was called for a trial.
Judge asked me if I could be unbiased on my judgment.
I said no, I cannot.
He asked why not.
I told him I won't apply any law I don't agree with.
He said give me an example.
I said "Rosa Parks broke segregation laws. Was she a criminal?"

And now I'm home.

br00tz

Yeah, the judge was very clear that they don't care what you do once the trial is concluded. I'm sure if it were a more public spectacle they probably would have cared more. This was a low-level case, despite the time it took.

Brilliant!

My dad's thing has always been whatever the first question is during jury selection to say, "That son of a bitch looks guilty to me, your honor!" Strangely, he's never sat on a jury.

^^^ Yeah I didn't want to do anything that made it too apparent I didn't want to be there but I asked my dad about and he told me to basically say I couldn't be unbiased so I went with the Rosa Parks thing

I REALLY didn't want to be there, I have a gig on Friday and soundcheck is at 5 in Baltimore, if I got a 3 day trial I would have to most likely play without a proper soundcheck and that's more important than justice.

My last time at in in-person jury pool:

Them: What do you do for a living?

Me: College English professor

Them: Primarily research writing focuses on the Bill of Rights.

Them: You are excused.

They really want couch potatoes whose entire knowledge of the law is from watching Law and Order.

The entire system is flawed and needs to have a redux. Some states worse than others.
