Used , it’s still over $100 but the Mad Professor Snow White autowah sounds pretty damn good.
I’ve got a pcb from guitarpcb that’s based on it that I still need to build.

Re: Tell me about your favorite envelope filters/auto wahs
I have an EHX Cock Fight, which is one of my favorite pedals. Not only because of the awesome name, but it works really well as an auto-wah , or wah+fuzz or the function I use the most: an adjustable frequency "cocked wah" filter that just sounds awesome.

Re: Tell me about your favorite envelope filters/auto wahs
I've been thru several iterations of the DOD and Q-tron, and a bunch of random ones. Don't go cheap on an envelope filter. The cheap ones are usually inconsistent when activating the envelope, forcing you to be heavy handed to ensure it triggers.
The Analogman is the best I've found.

Re: Tell me about your favorite envelope filters/auto wahs
Stuff I've had:
Micro Tron IV
Q-Tron +
Dod reissue
EQD Spatial Delivery
TWA Little Dipper
TWA Wah Rocker
The Micro Tron and the Q-Tron + are essentially tied for first. The Micro is more convenient though. Smaller size. Normal power requirement. etc.
That said, the switch placement on the micro is stupid. Too easy to hit both buttons. Also, switching to "down" mode on the fly only seems useful if you're running the Mutron Octavider before the Mutron. If you try to switch to "down" mode by itself, you still need to kneel down and adjust everything. (for some crazy reason, the "up" settings work fine in "down" mode if you're running an octave unit into it)
The EQD, TWA, and Dod units just don't sound as good IMO. They are all more funky vs. jam-bandy.

I really like the EHX tube zipper. I paid about $120 or so for it. Has built in distortion and runs off 2 12AX7's. Only problem is that it is big and clunky and uses some wacky power adapter. I also have a malekko envelope filter I got in a trade and it's ok. They can definitely be had for under $100 on the used market.

I skip right over these Jerry/Mayer leads. God I dislike that sound with a fiery passion. I also dislike steel drums which is basically the same sound.

Re: Tell me about your favorite envelope filters/auto wahs
I own a big chassis Q-Tron, an Ibanez AF-9, and a 3Leaf Proton, all of which are basically Mu-Tron III clones. The Q-Tron is the original clone, designed by Mike Beigel himself, and is my absolute favorite pedal, when it works. It was fried in a severe storm, in which a lake was destroyed, and brought back to life by EHX. It’s been having sporadic issues for a few years, and I wanted a functional, as well as smaller, replacement, so I bought the Ibby. That never worked, so I took it to Savage Audio, where it remains, after nearly two years. I will be sending another email, because my voicemails go unanswered. So, I bought the Proton as a backup. It works, but I’m probably going to sell it, as I gear up for the Snax.
I had a Russian Bassballs, and I hated it for a long time, because it was broken, straight out of the box. After EHX repaired it, I found it to be a quirky pedal, but not something I could use regularly. It went towards something.
I wanted a Lovetone Meatball, but it never happened.

Re: Tell me about your favorite envelope filters/auto wahs
Source Audio Spectrum is a little pricier ($200 or so new), but will basically do EVERY kind of filter and auto wah you could want plus octaves up and down. DOD reissue is great, but if you want more control or options hard to go wrong with the SA

This.
The Q Tron+ has a stupid big wall wart to power it; think it's 24 volts, but sounds good, and has it's own loop that you can put an OD in to give it something akin to the mutron kick, though it only works when the autowah is engaged. The micro tron is simpler to power and use, but more expensive. If you're looking for Jerry tones those are about the best.

The micro tron IV is the best one. Aside from size and power I think it just sounds better than the q tron as well, and is easier to dial in

When you get it, open that fucker up and fiddle with the trimpot (I think it’s the right one). It makes a huge difference. Even before you swap in the red chip.

Buddy of mine is sending me a 3 Leaf Audio Proton in exchange for working on something for him.

To me it beats the Analogman but it did take a bit of tweaking the internal trimpots, swap the chip, and find basically the one setting that sounds good to me.
