Mark IV Long vs. Short head

Post by Tommy Eisen »

It still amazes me that they can pack a amp that can do 30/50/70/90 watts with so many features into such a small package. I had never actually sat these 2 amps next to each and realized how much smaller the short head is than the long head. Visually it had always appeared to me that that short head though less wide was taller, but that's not the case. Anyway amazing little amp, still can't believe how tiny it is, and how much power it packs.

and next to a Marshall style head for contrast

Yeah, the whole initial idea of Boogie was a ton of power and options in a small package, and they've stuck to that philosophy for the most part. It's amazing how crowded, yet neatly laid out, a Mark series head is on the inside. I remember talking to Trace from Voodoo Amps about them a few years back and him saying that they were limited in how radical a modification they could do to Marks because they were already "10 lbs. of tricks in a 5 lb. bag."

Also, toan is in teh yoga matz.
"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

Toan is in the yoga matz lol.

"10 lbs. of tricks in a 5 lb. bag." LOLz I like that. But seriously is there any other 90w high gain, channel switching lunch box amp? This thing is a feat of amp engineering.

Yup awesome.

When I ordered my MK III in the mid 80's, the long head box was a $25 add on option.

I had a short head MkIV for a while. The thing weighed a metric ton.

Cool amp though, I sounded like Santana.

I love my mark iv with a passion... I just remounted it in my combo.. it came with the ev speaker.. it's a short chassis but the damn thing weighs 95 pounds  I love being able to drop the wattage, it's probably my favorite feature.. it makes the damn thing go from stadium volume to pretty manageable apartment volume! i'm loving the lead channel with my emg's, great 80's toan
