Mostly pointless re-shuffling of your board. Who does it?

Post by Cirrus »

Anyone else do this? :idk:

It seems like at the moment every couple of weeks I'll take everything off my board and shuffle things round a bit in the name of basically making it easier for me to use while playing, singing and jiggling about on a dark stage. Maybe I'll adjust the order of some of the pedals, or sub something in or out, then I play the game of juggling different ideals;

- Can the PP2 power everything on the board?
- Can I keep all my connections (preamp in, fx send +return, channel switch) accessible at the top of the board?
- Can I make it easy to use wireless or cable at the start?
- Can I make sure I can hit each footswitch without accidentally hitting something else, like a knob or the tuner mute? (that last one happens way too often live..."SOLO BOOST!!!!" *silence :phair: *
- Can I keep the wires tidy? Can I keep hum and buzz to a minimum?

To be honest, I find it quite fun in a problem solving kinda way but I'll be the first to admit it's largely pointless.

Example: this weekend I changed my board round a lot just because I subbed one pedal for another. I could just have put the new one in the old one's place, but nooooo

I do this ALL the time. I even write out my pedalboard for each rehearsal in a little book I keep with me. Usually it'll be 'which dirt pedal(s) to use and in what order' or 'I'll take this off and try and do without out it'. Recently I have been trying to scale back my board for the band, it's gone from 15 pedals to about 10/11. My board is never exactly the same for each rehearsal lol.

EDIT: I am still thinking about getting a Ring thing, M5, Pharaoh, rat, DMMH, and I NEED a true bypass lopper lol. Oh and better patch cables... In fact, I need a new board; mine is too heavy lol.

I'm in a constant battle to put only what I need on my board.... When I was in my last band I was able to reduce the board down to a pedal Train Mini.. now that I'm not in a band anymore I want as many pedals on my board as possible to mess around with so now I'm back to my Pedal Train Jr, worst part... there's space so that means I'm going to get pedal GAS soon...

Ive stripped my board down over the years. BAck in 04-05, when I was gigging, I had 10 FX on my board (and 2 expression pedals). Now it's kinda bare bones.

I always see it as: effects pedals and support pedals.

Effects: wah/filter, dirt, modulation, delay, etc.

Support: Tuner, EQ, Noise surpressor, maybe boost pedal (whatever), etc.

If there was a way to get along without the support pedals I'd be happier :p but I need a tuner and EQ =/

It's constant.

Just last weekend I ripped apart my board in a fit of dissatisfaction. I plan to totally rebuild it this weekend.

I also have a shelf full of pedals that rarely get used but that I can't seem to part with. They end up on the main board for like 2 weeks and I start to hate them and then it's back to the shelf.

I'm think I'm going to start zip tying everything down to make it more of a hassle to change.

Yeah I'm trying to decide whether to take the uber fubar bliss off the board and just use the Wampler crush the button as a main dirt pedal lol. I need to put my board together for tomorrow evening... I might wait until after work tomorrow.

Bit of a bump for this. At my gig on Friday, I kept on having to look down to make sure I stood on the right thing and that pedals were on/ off as they should be. Ergonomics fail, and time for the next pointless re-shuffle.
