Amp modelling / guitar effects plugins for a new DAW user

Post by Elbutcho »

So I purchased Presonus AudioBox Studio and I'm trying to use the demo Guitar Rig Guitar Modelling software but I'm not digging the tones at all. The only experience I have is with Line 6 UX1 and the POD farm tones that came with that and I could get pretty good tones with that............my question is there are a bunch of different amp modelling / guitar effects plugins mfg's can any of them work with Presonus AudioBox and Studio One......the POD doesn't or at least I can't get it to work.

Thanks

Doesn't the UX1 have the option of just tossing the signal direct without processing into a DAW where you can use any plugin to process it? I thought all PODs had that option. It was one of the best features on the PODxt I had.

I purchased the PreSonus AudioBox Studio.....the AudioBox interface doesn't work with the POD software........and I'm a clueless douche too

POD Farm is a plugin, right? Are you using a DAW where you can add plugins to the channels? I don't think the stand-alone POD software works with any other interface, but it should work with anything through the DAW unless they changed something drastically in the last couple years.

You're probably right I'm in dummy mode because I've never used a DAW before

Are you using a cab IR? They all sound like shit to me with a good cab.

Not sure if i understand the OP question but I think this is the issue.

You may have to manually add the plugs to the DAW or make the DAW search for the plugs.

With that being said when you do have all of that working one of the best guitar amp sims for metal I found was the Baron Custom Amp Sim.

Also Steiny is right, the cab and/or impulses you use can make a huge difference.

I used LeCab Ir loader and found a sweet package of cab Ir's on Andy Sneap forum.

On top of all that, if you have an Ipad or an Iphone Bias/Jamup sounds better than any free plugin I have heard. (soon to be on desktop)

I use the ENGL E646 UAD plugin with my Apollo Twin when i'm doodling and don't feel like hooking up and / or micing amps. It does the job nicely.
