Need a TLDR recording HOW-TO

Post by kharper4289 »

Hi guys, I've been looking at YouTube lately about these Lepou plugins and recording. I have a lot of experience using my old AXEFX and Line 6 Pod units but it has been a few years since I have touched a guitar, I have since sold everything off except for a few of my favorite guitars.

How do I use these lepou plugins? I understand my guitar has to go to the computer (duh), but by what means?

Do I need a preamp? USB? Should I upgrade my soundcard? My current computer is a gaming masterpiece with a very high end Z87 mobo, not sure if that will suffice.

Basically what I need to know is :

guitar ---> (what equipment) ---> USB(?) ---> Reaper (my program of choice).

Any hardware recommendations? Firebox? I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm used to just plugging in a device to USB and recording quality audio and mixing later. Never used plugins/vsts/etc

Thanks!

Then you've got the basics down. You just need a preamp/interface with instrument level inputs on it. Run it into a DAW of some sort. Reaper, Logic, Pro Tools are popular DAWs. In that DAW you have the option of adding plugins to each "channel" of audio. One of those channels you'll set to use the input device your instrument is plugged into. You'll add your Lepou plugin to that channel strip. Clicky the R/Record button on that channel, click record in the DAW, and go. Though, to be fair, with Lepou you'll also need either a cab simulator (Recabinet or the like) or an impulse loader and a cab impulse to load into it. Some DAWs come with plugins that can load impulse responses stock, and there are a few free impulse loading plugins available as well.

I've been using a Focusrite Saffire unit for years now. The instrument level inputs are crystal clear and have a gain adjustment available to prevent clipping. There's literally thousands of interfaces available that would give you comparable features and usability though. All the way from $100 mbox units to multi-thousand dollar tube pres with USB/Firewire connectivity. It's all a matter of what you're looking for.

nightflame long time no talk bro, i used to post here a lot under the name -assy- from HCAF.

What would you recommend in the used market for under $150?

Just need one instrument input, tube preamp wouldn't hurt.

Thanks man!

Get the focusrite scarlett 2i2...150 bucks brand new, but you may be able to contact Loop and get a better deal. Great device for recording one or two inputs at a time!

Jesus christ that is a great deal!!! Great mobile unit too man...I actually just bought one over the weekend to record my niece and nephew singing vocals...Worked great, no external power supply, it's powered via USB and still has phantom power...Impressive little fucker :thu:
