Varitone control

Post by downstemmed »

Does anybody else have a Varitone 5 or 6 way switch on their guitar? What do you think of it?

Hell yes...I actually not only have them on several guitars of mine...I BUILD custom varitone circuits (mine are called "MegaTones". I've built a few, custom ones for some of the forum members here, and also for guys on other forums as well. Once you get used to having one on your guitar...it's hard using a guitar with a "regular" tone control. I build my MegaTones with, or without an inductor...and custom tailored capacitor values, depending on what the customer is looking for, tonally. I also make bass-specific models too.

Norm makes a legit Varitone. We did a deal a little while back and I had it in my Strat for a wee bit.

Killer work and the dude knows his shit. Not a buddy bump but if you want some cool upgrades, talk to him.

Let's here some more about them. I'd love something cool like that on my Strat.

I've been finding this true. I also used to use an MXR 6 band EQ, right after my guitar. I always used to cut, instead of boost (a habit formed after years with EMG's). I wish I knew what specific frequencies, my BC Rich 5 way Varitone control cuts.

I'd try contacting their customer service department...maybe they can give you the info/specs you need.
I'm curious if they're the same specs as Gibson's "modern" varitone (like on "Lucille")...or on Epiphone's Frank Lero Wilshire Phant-O-Matic. I've also got a Deluxe Varitone, from Torres Engineering...and it's amazing, all the different sounds I can get out of my guitar. Although...mine are built better, and I offer custom capacitor values & types...Torres doesn't. :D

I guess I will contact BC Rich. It's incredible I can't find this on the internet anywhere.

They suck with detailed diagrams on their wiring and schematics. I almost want to get an old mockingbird again and do a diagram and release it to the masses.

No way! When I was thinking about a mockingbird, I want an original 70's Mock in Koa.

The Mockingbird ST line is cool but they use floating trems and omit the onboard boost.

Yeah, I know...I definitely like the older Mockingbirds better.
BTW...how's the "Megatone" & other mods working out? :D

You could but you're better off using the Photobucket app.

iPhones can be a hit or miss when comes to uploading photos correctly.
