I guess I gotta go back and listen to Rhianna for all this guitar work I missed lol. My buddy was actually her guitar tech back in the mid 00s sometime, I remember joking with him that I didn’t even know her songs had guitar. I think I would have heard if he was teching g for nuno, it must have been before him

Where can I find what Greg said?

Pretty weird because he toured with Michael Jackson at one point

Or maybe that's why he's qualified to talk shit about it lol

I think Howe’s were 100% on point. I know I relate tot the idea of having to play not for any other reason than I’m literally compelled to. I HAVE to. There’s that connection.

And for some reason, I took Nuno at his word that maybe Rhianna had all these little tricky shitty going on, but the more I thought about it, that seems pretty far-fetched. Then you see a dude like Howe basically say “I’m playing simplistic bullshit for some 20yo female star” just for the paycheck. I’m sure there’s some parts that require skill, but I think Nuno oversold on this Rhianna gig. And then overreacted when someone politely disagreed.

I don't think he is saying it's tricky as in technically challenging. I think he's saying a lot of that stuff is awkward/out of the comfort zone for someone that is primarily a rock guitar player. And I agree with that. I can play a bunch of different styles (if I have to) but I am certainly comfortable within a certain range/style. If I was offered to play a local R&B gig here, I would say no. (obviously Rhianna would be a huge upgrade for me. But that's besides the point).
And I think that's true for every player who is primarily an artist and focused on a certain style (as opposed to a session guy who focused is on versatility).

Nuno does have a solid funk/r&b background along with his rock background, which makes him more of a natural fit to that gig than a guy like Slash who excels on hard rock and blues pretty much exclusively. I think that's what he was talking about and why he got upset when Fortus said Slash could do it. Yeah of course he can do it but it would be very out of his element. Another good example would be Yngwie, how would that work out with Rhianna? Obviously he could play all of it in his sleep but it probably wouldn't be a good time for anyone.

This is why I think this is a huge internet misunderstanding - totally at Nuno's fault for not taking a deep breath before posting - but I think at the end of the day he's saying "I feel as much in my element with Rhianna as I do with Extreme and I don't think a lot of rock players could do that". Not that they couldn't physically play the parts. And he was upset because he thought that Fortus implied that he said Slash couldn't physically do it. Still, he handled it very poorly. He could have simply clarified his point (which he kind of did), without shitting on Fortus.

I think the real problems of his post was the "I'm on numerous guitar magazines" and the "I never even heard you play but I am sure you're decent" uncalled for, condescending BS he said.

But that's easy to happen if you don't get a hold of your emotions before you post online. I've seen that many times here and elsewhere. And I've been guilty of posting while angry myself. I think everyone who's spent a good amount of time on social media/forums has at least one angry post they're not proud of (whether they deleted it or not).

But the point about the Rhianna gig, I can see it and he's certainly entitled to that opinion, just drop the holier than thou nonsense.

Yeah I get what he was saying,m. A lot of players can play different styles without much issue. And I admit I don’t know many Rhianna songs but I doubt SHE has this massively diverse catalog. Nuno overselling. Just take all the praise people threw at you for that solo That I already forgot. Haha. And have already seen countless YouTube vids of people playing it. Lol.. anyway, it is all dumb, but Nuno is the one who looks the most dumb thru-out this. So, ya reap what ya sow sometimes.

And yeah calling that dude Fortis “decent”.. lol. You’d think in your 50s, pretty damn successful, enjoying a resurgence in people recognizing his abilities. He would have much better sense

Nuno issued a video apology to Slash and a Richard and offered to meet up and have a beer with them. Said he was wrong and owns it. Richard in the comments said he’d take him up on that beer. So it seems to be settled.

E-rough, yes. In terms of real life consequences we had Ampfests in several states, partied together, met some killer amp guitar builders, swapped gear, supported each other's bands/clips etc

Internet rough is angry RPG at the most.

Of course from time to time something actually serious happen like the Craigslist killer... but for the most part it's people getting frustrated because they can't have conversations in a format that was not meant for conversations

People are not good at having instant conversations in writing. For the whole length of human existence, the written format was for books and well thought out statements and letters were you had time to think and draft etc.

Making writing an instant form of communication is adverse to how communication evolved. That's the real issue. Get in a room or at on the phone and talk..
