So far the three new tunes sound better than anything on their last album.

Yeah I agree with this. And I'm glad they're doing it that way. With rare exceptions, most bands that try to appeal to a new audience fail, and a good number of them also alienate their old fans in the process.
I mean, what's the chance that Extreme would make any significant strides in an under 30 (or even under 40) crowd in 2023, no matter what they play? That ship has sailed a long time ago.
So this is a modern production version of their style, with some modern musical ingredients here and there but nothing too far from "traditional" hard rock, which is probably what their long time fans want. I'm certainly happy with it lol

I enjoy a lot of it too; it's like the almost-prog-rock VH record
A Year to the Day, Without You, Fire in the Hole, Primary/Ballot or the Bullet are bangers

It’s an interesting record. I can still revisit it,,, maybe every 6-7 years lol and find sumthin to like about it. Some cool playing. It’s the ONLY record to my ears that truly sounds like the PV 5150. Altho I’m pretty sure he was using the combo for some songs and the early proto for the 5152. At least I think it was before it was ever released. Anyway, that shit actually sounds like the PV which really none of the albums before that claimed to use it really did.
Devin mentioned some of the good ones that I can get into.

Re: New Extreme
Extreme was the literal first rock band I ever saw live (opening up for Bon Jovi). My first experience hearing them was (unknowingly) in the Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure movie with "Play With Me." Fuck me that song was an eye-opener and Nuno was blazing on that track.
He continues to shine on the guitar in these new tracks as well. However, that's about as far as I can care about it. It mostly sounds like a dated style with modern production. I'm glad they are out there doing their thing. It's definitely better than the new Metallica shit. I'll reserve final judgement for when I can listen to the whole album though...mostly to hear Nuno fucking shred.

These fuckers don't age. WTF?
Re: New Extreme
I’m personally digging the songs they’ve released so far overall. My only complaint is that the production seems a little off. It’s very dark sounding to my ears, like there’s no high end clarity in the mix.

I actually loved Saudades; I didn't listen to it until a couple years after it dropped for some reason but when I finally did I was like wtf this shit rules

Re: New Extreme
I listened to it only once or twice shortly after it was released and just didn’t dig it. Now you guys got me tempted to give it another shot.

Re: New Extreme
I think Extreme has had good songs on every album. I remember everyone being up in arms when Waiting for the Punchline came out because it was not identical to III sides, but there were some great songs on there like Hip Today and Mike Mangini played some killer drums on there as well. There were some great tracks on Saudades like Comfortable Dumb, Star, Run, and Sunrise.
As for the new stuff, I like it a lot. #Rebel is probably my favorite of the three. I will pick up the album when it drops. Between the new songs and all the talk about Extreme since Rise dropped, it got me to dust off my old ADA MP1 and do the Mod 4 Mark II mod on it, and it screams Nuno tone. Now if only I could play a fraction of what he does.
