Man after my own heart! I always start with bourbon then transition to rye. To be honest I just go from a nicely mixed old fashioned to straight rye as the day wears on

I love a good rye...but.... IMO good ones hard to find since I"m not a big liquorice fan and I find so many have that as a prominent flavour....I really like the Michter's, Cody Road had one I really liked and Whistle Pig was nice but I found for the price it wasn't worth it and Bullet is cool for mixing but too harsh for sipping IMO..... I do like high rye content Bourbons as well.. so Wild Turkey, is a favourite... haven't tried their Rye offering as yet though....

Michter's us fantastic. Wild Turkey is solid for how cheap it is. Templeton 4 year is great and 6 year is even better.

That Ryemaggedon may be good, but I'd give it a pass just because of the pretentious label. All three of them look like self-important dicks

Local place was clearing out some Bone Dry Gin. I've never tasted "good" gin so decided to give it a shot.

I'm fairly impressed. First sip I was thinking "this would make an excellent martini, too bad I don't have any vermouth at the moment."

Then I read the back of the bottle. Apparently during the vermouth shortage during the war Winston Churchill would pour some dry gin in a glass, bow towards France and consider that his vermouth. I  ed and tossed in a couple olives. :cop:

The original martini recipe, from the 1920's or 30's called for gin and sweet vermouth.
At one point, I was using Hendrick's Gin and Port Wine... makes an amazing beverage.

MMmm. Port.

I've been known to toss port into cocktails here or there. There's a brand I get at the local store that's so sweet it's practically chocolate flavor that makes an excellent addition to a manhattan.
