Still strange that there's been no fever.

As for the parents, no adverse side effects from the vaccines that they've relayed to me. My dad is in his 80's while on chemo and my mom is in her 70's just plugging along.

Great to hear!

Just got back from getting my g/f's 90 year old mother her second Moderna dose. So far, no reactions.

The g/f and I have an appointment for April 26th... not sure if it's one dose or two because, the email confirmation didn't give us a second appointment.

EDIT: Just found out that, I'll be getting Pfizer and they'll schedule the second dose when I receive the first.
I have drive 60 miles, each way... and I have to go back to the same location to get the second dose!

I'm curious, when you get your first dose, do they have a matching second dose stored until you come back? Like this-second-dose-vaccine-vial-belongs-to-ajax-lepinski? Or is it like, this dude is back, says he needs a second dose, and they just grab you one out of the freezer? :idk:

Beats me... I'm guessing they have a vaccine delivery schedule that matches their dispensing schedule, with a few days backup?

Drove an hour to rural Oregon to get my first Moderna shot on Friday from a small pharmacy/liquor store. They’re taking all comers as they have more vaccines than takers. Scheduled to return in 28 days for the second.

Just got my first Pfizer shot today. Go back in a few weeks. Simple process at the Cleveland State arena. Took about 10 minutes. I was surprised by the efficiency.

You get scheduled for a second appointment the time of your first shot. You bring the card with you when you go back. They have it all planned accordingly. But no, there’s no a vial of Pfizer sitting around waiting for you to come back.

not saying your wife is wrong - but can you explain to a layman how you can test for long-term affects with a short-term testing duration??
For instance - the vaccine is effective this 'season' but has unwanted affects the next time the virus comes around (not specifically talking about CoViD here).

I know for a fact that they skipped the animal trials but they also usually run about 5 years of tests on a new vaccine to determine long term effects which they couldn't do with this one.

I'd be very doubtful of anyone who says they're a scientist while saying they conducted all the stringent tests. It just isn't true... even if in the end it was as safe as any other. Plus there's lots of fields of science.

Like bro science, which I obviously study. lol

This type of vaccine has been in development for a while. While not specifically aimed at COVID initially it was aimed at similar viruses. So basically it’s been tested a lot before COVID was even a thing. So the delivery agent has no sort of secret side effects. The actual vaccine takes a small, almost inert amount of COVID and gives it to your body to fight. From that your body “learns” how to combat it. Second dose is higher, hence some people feeling like ass for a day or two.

Now this is a dumbed down explanation. I’m not a scientist by a long stretch.

so what’s your science background? You’re saying that you know things for a fact so I’m genuinely curious. Bro science made me giggle.

As far as my friend’s wife - she has a PhD in biomedical engineering, a masters in mechanical engineering and is now the assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at St. Louis University. She’s ridiculously smart.

By 'this type of virus' - you mean an mRNA vaccine? That is probably the most concerning to me as it has never been used outside of research or testing as far as I know. I'm not comfortable with it - don't know what it does in your body, or to your DNA.

As for the second part - I thought only the J&J vaccine had any of the actual virus in it - the others (mRNA) did not have any of the virus, they only modified your body to fight off the carrier/shell/'attachment method' of the virus.

Lots of conflicting info out there.

It doesn’t do anything to your DNA. Seriously. mRNA in your own cells is produced and removed from the nucleus where your DNA is produced to be translated by tRNA into proteins. There’s no backward path for the central dogma of gene transcription and translation, usually. The exception is retroviruses like the HIV virus. Which COVID is not. Since the cells are picking up extraneous mRNA, the cell’s own nucleus is completely bypassed and the mRNA is transcribed into spike proteins that are taken to the surface of the cell membrane. There’s a limit to the amount of spike proteins that can be transcribed because each mRNA molecule has a a start codon with a leading tail. As the mRNA is translated repeatedly that tail shortens and eventually the start codon is degraded. The remaining mRNA is then degraded and recycled by the cells. Of note, the mRNA of a virus and the mRNA of your own cells consist of the same four amino acids: adenine, cytosine, guanine and uracil. It’s the sequence of triads of these that produce the spike proteins. The actual molecules aren’t any different than the same molecules your own body produces and as they’re degraded they can be recycled to create new mRNA sequences based off your own cells DNA or denatured and broken down and used for other purposes.

I’m not a scientist but I almost had a bachelors in biology. Just never finished college. But we were studying mRNA as a potential vaccine and treatment source back about 15 years ago. This is just a proof of concept come to life.

The J&J functions similarly to a similar Ebola vaccine. An inactivated adenovirus has its genetic code modified to include a sequence to build a spike protein. As the virus is picked up by cells, the genes within the virus utilize the cells to produce the spike protein and its antigens. It’s then detected by your immune system and an immune response is triggered. The inactivated virus doesn’t replicate so the load of what you receive in the vaccine is what you get.

Now all this being said, I still get any hesitance and want to research these things. And yes there’s a lot of conflicting and disinformation out there. And could there potentially be long term affects? Sure. And yes we don’t know them. But in the short term outside of the usual side affects we would expect, it’s tough to see anything else at least from the 3 approved for EUA in the states. We may see more. We may not. Hard to say. And I wish I had a better answer for you all.

I've been busy educating myself as best I can with the info available out there for autoimmune diseases and the CDC and every other organization say we should get it . For me it's totally a game of Russian roulette , I'm probably gonna take that spin of the loaded gun . There also may be more restrictions on non-vaccinated peoples as this goes on and that will only complicate the everyday BS . So... there is still time to ponder it all but I'm leaning going for it . Very scary though for me . Deer Hunter mf

For real man. I'm glad you are, because a lot of the media presentation of those in favor vs those not seems to be a basic us vs them type mentality. And it's really not the case. Everyone who's posted here, regardless of pro or con has had some real legitimate concerns and that's good to get them out in the open and talk about them. And it helps humanize everyone who may have differing positions on this outside of the "us vs them" media narrative.
