I watched Season 1 of Legion cuz I'm into X-Men. This show is tough to watch. Legion doesn't know what's real, what is his schizophrenia, and what are the opposing powers trying to make him believe is real. It can get a little intense. I didn't set a series record on my dvr and when season 2 started, I missed the first few episodes and gave up on the show. I told my wife that if she watches S1, I'll start S2 with her, but she'd rather rewatch old Downton Abby episodes. I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than watch Downton.

Correct! Fuckin love the expanse. It's the only scifi to capture my imagination they way star trek did when I was a kid. I think it's because it is so grounded in reality and our understanding of physics.

I think you and I chatted about this the last time I asked. Oddball show that was interesting sounding to a degree but sounds like I need to be all in on it, if anything. Duly noted and thank you.

Lovecraft Country ended about how I expected except for the very final scene. While I get the RAH RAH cheering section that will love it, it seemed to miss the mark a tiny bit. Don't get me wrong, a certain someone deserved a certain something, but not from the direction it came.

Overall, a good show worth a watch for horror/fantasy/sci-fi fans that don't mind a little overpowering historical truth in their face here or there. Probably not something I'll want to revisit often, but I'm glad I watched it.

Finished Vampire Diaries -

About the only two redeeming qualities were the gals and Damon being a sarcastic asshole throughout.

We're about halfway to season two in Cobra Kai. This show fucks. God damn. What a treat.

Daniel is coming across like a serious asshole. Johnny seems like a decent dude in comparison. when the two were sitting at the bar together chatting.

Started Lovecraft Country last night. First episode was AWESOME. 2nd episode was good in parts but I am hoping (and think I am right) that this locale and related characters are donezo and we are moving on to a different story. I'm not sure I want to watch 8 more episodes of Village of the Damned People chasing them around.

I was wayyyyy more into the cabin the woods gorefest of the first episode. Very cool juxtaposition of 50's setting (climate and culture as well as the literary tie in) with the scifi vibe but with more of a horror tint. I dig it. Also; Michael Williams is always awesome. Looking forward to seeing what happens down the line.

Very interested to see what you think of the Aunt's travels and the eventual end of the show. There's some serious awesome throughout the series, but man alive some of it's hard to watch.

I am assuming the climate/culture is going to continue to play heavily into it. Even just the initial displays of this struggle are a potent element in making it stand out from Stan Vs Evil or whatever "similar" show. I can see it getting a whole lot worse which will make for a more effective show I think. It's a tough subject obviously as in normally watching a series, you are wanting to be entertained; but the overarching subject in this is not entertaining in the slightest :(

Yeah, to put it mildly, yer gonna see some shit.

There are some really great moments sprinkled throughout, but the oppressive nature of the overall story gets a bit heavy at times. Probably why my wife and I needed a couple episodes of Brooklynn 99 after each episode of Lovecraft Country.

Somehow I've never seen either Borat movie. I keep meaning to, it just never makes it to the top of the queue.

The first one is great. Bruno, provided you are down with Cohen's style of ridiculously confrontational and offensive humor; is really spectacular. Without getting into it too far; there are funny moments in the Borat "sequel"; but the main gist of it seems really driven towards a singular purpose at the expense of the humor :idk: I'm curious to see the actual ending of it as I have seen all the hot takes on it at this point from both directions. I might be reading too much into a perceived intention, as well. I might overthink things from time to time

I'm about 2/3 through season 2 of Ozark right now. Really liking the show. Serious breaking bad vibe.

Really like the artwork at the beginning of each episode.

Finished up a few things over the weekend.

Truth Seekers was awesome. Quick half hour episodes; funny as f with some great jump scares. If you are a fan of Pegg and Frost's other work; you'll dig this immensely. Malcom McDowell is great as well. He usually is wayyyyyyy OTT; but he is subdued just enough this. So much better this way. Give it a watch.

Finished up Lovecraft Country. Tough one. Was great overall. I really LOVED the first 3, 4 episodes. Then it went batsh!t into sci-fi land and seemed to remove itself from the horror side of the equation and I wasn't near as enthused. I'll take horror over sci-fi, 8 days a week. Horror with a science fiction slant? Sure. Bring it on  But straight up sci-fi is just boring for me. Yuck. I will say the Goonies side project episode was a nice little adventurous detour. The episode where Tic's aunt went into another dimension and found her strength, named herself was just beyond me. Whether that makes me dumb or not  I didn't sign up for (insert whatever science fiction show I will never willingly watch here), thank you. Let's get back to horrible reality of the real world or get back to the cabin in the woods mentality

The biggest issue is a lot of the horror in this series was what was happening in real life. Which gave it serious weight and heft as a drama. I can't say enough about the acting in this. Actor portraying Atticus was phenomenal as was Michael Kenneth Williamson. That dude needs a lifetime achievement award. His portrayals are always super deep because of the struggles his characters face are always just terrible. Which goes without saying but I will say it anyway. But I do wish they could have kept the fantastical side of the horror up a little more, at the same time? Minor quibble and in all honesty; it made for a better show in the end.

For me; they pulled out of that mid season "slump" and got back to where they needed to in general. As far as the "horror" goes; the shedding skin is one of the neatest (but nastiest) things I have ever seen in a horror film/series. Beyond the implications on a social commentary level. And the monsters were awesome as well. I am curious how they are planning on going forward with it. If they do plan to go forward?

Caught up on Cobra Kai. Holy fuck that high school fight. Good lord that was brutal.

Super anxious for the next season now. Wife declares no more Karate and Johnny tosses the keys in his car and walks away? Where they gonna go from here?

Really enjoying The Right Stuff on Disney+/National Geographic. Nothing can compete with the awesome cast of the movie but this has a solid cast of actors you have seen in tons of other TV shows. Really fleshes out one of my favorite chapters of US history.

Started watching Warrior. Cinemax show about turn of the century chinatown and the war between rival gangs. Written by Banshee writer, produced (?) by someone from the Lee family? Watched the first episode and it was fantastic. Looking forward to what happens next.

Also started Strike Back. Same network. Definitely can tell when a show is made for Cinemax. The old nickname seems to still ring true  Dumb action procedural but enjoyed the first episode in general. I think I will stick with Warrior for sure. This one maybe, maybe not.
