Re: What shows do you watch?
City on the Hill done. Great cop drama.
Been searching for a UK show called Friday Night Dinner. Stars Simon Bird from the In Betweeners and Tom something or other from the show Plebs. Both hilarious shows; if you dig British potty humor. Shit your pants dumb scenarios but in the best possible way. Both are great in their respective shows for self-deprecation and for taking the piss out of everyone else around them. In Friday Night Dinner; they play asshole brothers who visit their parents every week for dinner. Simple setup but so far, absolutely hilarious.
I had searched for this show a while ago and could not find it on the usual one of the 17 services I subscribe to suspects. As well as BritBox and a couple other Brit-centric streaming services. Looked again last night only to find it's been on Hulu
If you know one of my most watched categories is British dumb comedy; why in the fuck is your algorithm suggesting Claws II: The Return and I Was Married to a Radish instead of shit that I will actually enjoy and watch
First world problems obviously.
Basic as fuck; but highly recommended. Quick 25 minute episodes of these 2 being assholes to each other and their irritating parents

Binged a new show out of the UK, Gangs of London.... was pretty good.... not sure if they are going to do a 2nd season but would watch it for sure...
Now wrapping up the 4th season of The Last Kingdom, this show just delivers... really hope we don't have to wait 2 years to get season 5

Sweet! My wife said it was on the Netflix app and I was hoping it was a new season and not just pushing out old shit pretending I haven't already watched it

Re: What shows do you watch?
Motherland: Fort Salem is building a very interesting world for a dumbass teen girl drama show. The back story of how the witches chose to weaponize their vocal talents while there are other sects of folks with similar talents that do not is super interesting, even if it's only been touched on briefly here or there. One of the three main girls needs to either die or settle her shit, but the other two are fun to follow, even if they are naive as fuck. The General's character is both imposing and intriguing, supposedly having been one of the original witches on trial in Salem and surviving all these years by draining young soldiers of their youth. A privilege these girls strive to be accepted for. They become "bitties" (seriously, that's what they call them) and follow her around clucking at anybody that causes her displeasure. When they finally pass on, their youth is restored to their bodies, causing her to age some until she finds a replacement.
I know we're less than a season in, but I've been impressed with how well they've managed at staying self-consistent. New magical systems are a BITCH to keep right even when you're the only writer. How they're managing it with a new show with a whole staff is really cool.
I'd imagine it'll get canceled soon since I'm actually enjoying it. And they haven't gone full potato like free-form did with Sirens. Yet, anyway. There's still time.
Still enjoying Letterkenny as a before bed wind-down.
"Nice jammies. They come in mens?"
"I'd imagine you've cum in enough men for all of us."
"What's with the body hair, bud? You look like a twelve year old dutch girl."
So many one-liners and jokes.

I need to dig back into Letterkenny again. That first episode or 2(3?) was good but my wife wasn't feeling it and it didn't quite grab me enough to watch it after hours lol

There's just something about the constant jabs at each other that really reminds me of being on the farm on the funny days instead of the infuriating days. The hicks play it perfectly. Granted, they're never doing any work, but they've got the attitude.
And the Skids are the funniest damn thing.
The Valentines day special where Wayne (head hick) and Stewart (head skid) are hanging out together in the bar while the rest are at a speed dating event just fucking slays me every time.
Stewart: "I used to hit on the hockey players just to make them uncomfortable."
Wayne: "You just don't give a fuck. Do ya?"
Stewart:

And the Speed Dating event melting down into Mortal Kombat references and sexual innuendo while the person in charge is losing her shit is hysterical.

For some reason; the topic of Jonny Quest came up and we grabbed a boomerang trial. Great cartoon from before I was born. And probably the best cartoon using the old OG Spiderman cartoon style of animation where there is not much movement per frame.

Jonny Quest, both versions, are terrific cartoons. The old school one was great for its time and still holds up. The reboot in the late eighties, early nineties was STUPENDOUS. Totally followed the heart of the original while tackling then current issues.
And then the spin that the Adult Swim cartoons put on it when those characters would show up was

I've had to take a while to digest the Better Call Saul season ender. I'm thinking it's too much of a jump too fast for some characters, even if there were high points. The actor playing Lalo is great in his role. Kim's character flipped the switch for like the fifth time this season. Jimmy's despairing and wallowing in it. Mike's Mike. Lots of interesting things COULD have happened this season and didn't. It really felt like this season could have been condensed down to about three episodes and gotten to the same place. Lots of padding and not much movement.
I hope the final season is the final season. If they break it in half and add more episodes just to keep padding it out, it'll end up being a snore-fest like these last couple seasons.

Now I don't think I've seen the 90s reboot. I figured it would suck but maybe I should give it a go while we still have Boomerang. I have seen an episode of Harvey Birdman and loved it. But adult swim is definitely the kind of thing I need to dig up after the wife goes to sleep

One thing my son noticed is the original is more than a little un-PC for today's standards. I don't think any of the villains were American

“Actually, we KNOW that Hadji is a Hindu---we're told this in the 1964 series. While Benton and Race are being held captive in the temple of Anubis, Jonny and Hadji are stalked by renegade Egyptians who refer to Hadji as "the Hindu boy." In the 1980s series, Hadji returns to India and his Hindu master, the person from whom he'd learned many of his magic spells. For some reason, the 1996 series decided to avoid the issue of his religious training by word but not by deed, leaving some fans to guess that he might be a Sikh (since there's really no reason given for the turban in the orginal series and, as a Hindu child, there's not really a tradition which dictates that he wear one). Either way, the series bible does describe him as both a Sikh and a mystic but also indicates that he's studying to be a yogi, none of which makes any sense.
Additionally, Hadji continually speaks of reincarnation in the first series---that he was previously incarnated as a bird and that the elephant is his brother, further proof that he's a Hindu, since Sikhs do not believe in reincarnation and do not accept animal deity icons, if I recall correctly. I'm guessing that someone at H-B was trying to come up with an excuse to keep him in a turban for indentity's sake, but they obviously didn't do their homework.”

I re-watch the original Transformers cartoon about every other year or so. Some of that shit. Holy hell.
The middle eastern country filled with terrorists called "Carbombya." That one almost made Casey Kasem stop doing voice-over work back in the day.
Looney Toons is infamous for that sort of thing too.
Some of that stuff really cringes me out these days, though I still enjoy watching them for the inner kid.

Re: What shows do you watch?
Wolf Creek S2 came to Shudder yesterday. I've been trying to watch this dumb thing for a few years but it's availability has been scarce. I didn't like the movies. But season 1 was really good. Nothing ground breaking but just exciting thriller/horror. S2 we are up to episode 3. It's a fairly generic setup but they've ramped it up nicely and the end of episode 2 was batshit in the best way. Reminded me of the Hills Have Eyes remake. Which is the gold standard of horror remakes, imo. Anyways; will probably finish up over the weekend as we are enjoying it quite a bit.

Just got current on FutureMan on Hulu. Really dig that.
Started After Life with Ricky Gervais and about halfway through Season 1 on that. World On Fire is kind of cool for British WW2 era stuff. They just released a new season of The Last Kingdom which seems solid so far. 2 Episodes in.
Finally got to Season 5 of Letterkenny. Still great.

FutureMan looks neat. S1 of Afterlife is great. Started S2 but couldn't quite get as invested in it this time around. We'll finish it up at some point I am sure.

You just finished Future Man. It's dead, Jim, er, Jer. As is Preacher, which we're about to finish. Rogan and Goldberg signed a deal with somebody else. The deal allowed them a final season of each of their Hulu properties and that's that.
I did enjoy Future Man ending with the quasi-documentary about the "real" people that they based the story on. Especially the hilarious miscasting of Wolf, Tiger and Josh.
Preacher's gone full-blown batshit with this last season. Which is what we're paying it to do, so bravo!

Was it the Penis Head or the ear made of foreskins that put you off?
Or the witty dialog, "I want to carve a vagina in his head!"
Priceless.
It's much better than the second to last season in all honesty. That one where Jesse went home was just stacks and stacks of utter bullshit.

Re: What shows do you watch?
Finished up Preacher. Holy hell did they do a number or Herr Starr in that last season. Like, wow.
Eugene finally did something cool at the end of his arc. Humperdoo/Jesus is a fantastic actor. Being able to pull off both those characters so flawlessly is amazing. Apparently he's John Ritter's son? Didn't piece that together until the show was over.
The Jesus/Hitler negotiating and inevitable fight were pretty damn well played. Jesse/Tulip/Cass's story ended up satisfactory, which is more than I expected for a show rooted in absurdly abusive situations.
All in all, a good way to go out.

You need to watch some pretty obscure movies to get all their references too. Like they have an entire episode dedicated to the movie Zardoz. And some of their damn jokes take, literally, entire seasons to get to. Like they say Beetlejuice randomly, but the third time they say it in the series Beetlejuice walks by in the hallway in the background.
That was a show where you could enjoy it on the surface, and then when you dig in there's a whole other world in it. Some seriously intelligent picking on nerds as nerds level shit.
