What pickup for semi hollow body guitars?

Post by thefyn »

I was thinking of picking up a cheap semi hollow body because I am pretty sure my modded rat/jcm800 would sound stinkingly awesome.

I want a nice loose bloomy sizzle like:

Doesn't the AM93 come with Custom 58's? Those are pretty much the only ibby pickup I've ever played that I liked.

It came with the Super Custom 58s. I really liked the sound of them but they were just so hot and I wanted a bit of a more mellow sound.

Ahh. Makes sense. I only played a solid body guitar with Custom 58s. They might be scream a bit more in a semi hollow. That said, I've been strongly considering getting rid of my 7 string and picking up an AM93.

I can't say enough good things about my AM93. It instantly became my #1. My American Std Strat and Gibson 60s Tribute Les Paul have collected nothing but dust lately. I am still surprised how much I like compared to my other guitars.

I have a DiMarzio SD in my Epi Dot, and I love it. Feedback can be an issue if you're too close to the amp (so not the best choice for tight stages if you play with lots of gain), but it sounds awesome.

I left the stock Gibson 490/498 set in my ES-137 and they sound great, though I would imagine pickups that aren't too mid focused might e best for a semi to avoid feedback issues.

The answer is either Filtertrons(stock gretsch or TV Jones), Mean 90's or Surf 90's. Any other answer is wrong.
