Project guitar - 25.5 to 24.75 scale

Post by CrunchBerries »

Replacing the fretboard from 25.5 to 24.75 on a ~2010 Squier Tele Afinity, using an ebay fretboard for $25, and Jescar jumbo fretwire:

I can't wait to see if this even tunes properly lol, would be great if it is actually playable.

if the neck/nut positioning didn't change - and you just changed to a shorter scale fretboard - you are going to have to move the bridge closer to the neck.
I doubt you will have enough adjustment to get the intonation correct.

Nut slot looks like it was moved towards the bridge to compensate and the frets on the new fretboard are set up correctly... so, it should work. :idk:

I think you may be correct - didn't catch that pic.
unless that is a floyd nut shelf - guess it will matter how it was positioned on the neck.

Skills, man. You gonna end up needing to move the bridge or did you try to set the new board to where it should be on the neck to match up?

I am redoing the neck pocket and bridge placement to match the scale length. The neck pocket is crooked so the small 'e' string is close to the fret edge toward the 21st fret.

Also the neck pocket is not as snug as i want

.if He’s using the same neck shaft, which it looks like, the only way that would work is if the fretboard was moved forward 3/4 of an inch. And this doesn’t seem to be the case. As that pic does show a shelf for the nut but it doesn’t look moved forward 3/4 of an inch. Just looks like instead of leaving a little wood behind a standard strat nut he just leveled that entire area. So Unless he modified the neck shaft to be 3/4 shorter at the heel but that would pose other problems like the heel not being “long” enough to fit in the pocket and just changing the fit, this doesn’t seem like it’ll be correct

So yeah, I’m not sure this is gonna work. At least not on the same body this came off of..

This is an existing body, routed for pickups, etc?

Cause moving the bridge 3/4 closer you’ll likely run into the bridge pickup route. And even if you somehow miss it, the pickup will now be placed extremely close to the bridge. Or I guess you could split the difference and route the pocket 3/8tjs and move the bridge 3/8ths. That should work I suppose.

Anyway, I wish u luck, but the better bet would have been to make a new neck shaft too so you can make it to convert the scale length of the guitar without moving the bridge and modifying the body, cause in my experience there isn’t quite enough room. But... where there is a will there is a way

Thanks for the comments, you guys are bang on, keen eyes :)

To re-route the neck pocket I am routing out a 7/8" deep channel similar to a neckthrough. It will be 4" wide and require new routes for pickups, and new holes for bridge.
