Any ideas for a "Super Strat" build?

Post by c_corie »

Something EVH-ish, or is there a decent single humbucker super strat out there for under $400? Would prefer a non locking nut is possible...although I'm not sure how that works with-or is possible with a locking trem.

Under $400? Not sure. I can make that sort of thing but parts would be more than your bottom line.

Theres the new EVH stripe series coming soon. But that's probably out of your price range.

As far as a locking trem, I suppose you could use locking tuners, and maybe a graphite nut or something of the sort. Not sure how well it would hold up compared to a locking nut though.

There's a white single pickup San Dimas Charvel on my Craigslist (south jersey) for $500 or b.o. It has black Floyd and hardware factory. Check out the mex fender strats with Floyd . My buddy has a hss Floyd equipped mex strat and no joke it outplays some of the high end boutique and custom shop stuff we have. It has some cool switching options and factory pickups sound great. U can pick up a Floyd equipped blacktop strat even cheaper if u look around. Other then that, some of the DIY builds can end up being really expensive in the end and many don't hold resale value as a real build would be but sometimes the experience of building your own is worth it!

I wish Fender would do a single bridge pickup/trem strat. I'd even take a Squire if they made one like that. What ever happened to that Music Yo site they have tons of Kramers.

Look at the new BC Rich Gunslingers. I think they're under $400 and I like the one I tried quite a bit.

THIS !! at least you'll know when you find an 80's Kramer, the OFR on it is going to be a "good" one, unlike all the korean knockoffs stuffed full of tone sucking zinc.
