Progress on my Jaguar blank

Post by muntizeppa »

Hi, just wanna share my build progress. I don't have a plane so I did most of it by hand. Managed to get the edges stupidly flat. Now just waiting for my trim bits to land on my doormat.

I'd like to hear advise and tips before I advance to the next few steps.

Looking good man. I'm in the process of gathering materials/tools for my own build right now. I've been told to be very aware of the grain when using a router, if you taking off too much in one pass you can get nasty tearout, especially around the horns.

Here's an update. I lowered my round-over bit a tad too much. Luckily I was able to sand it off.

It's called meranti, but I don't know which species of meranti it exactly is. It's very close to mahogany.

I've done all the hard part. I think the next stage is the electronics cavity. I've yet decided what pups to choose. Any suggestions for a single pups that doesn't squeal as much. Also, do I have to buy the pick up covers and claw separately?

Looks great!

Personally, I like using strat pickups in my Jaguar-style builds. I prefer mounting the pickups to the pickguard vs. mounting to the body wood.

That said, knowing that you're in Europe, I would consider Seymour Duncan. They are widely available, and very high quality. I would also consider straight up Fender pickups.

If you want to be adventurous, I've used a few European pickups with great success. Creamery, Q Pickups, and Jess Loureiro. (Loureiro disappears every now and then, so I'm not sure I would order from him right now.)

Q pickups are cheap and nice. I think they are made in Croatia.

Here is a link to the Q Jag set. no claw though.

I was thinking of the SSL-1 for a Frusciante sounding tone. But it won't look have a Jaguar look to it. Only if I could fit Jag covers on the Strat pups. Also, is the claw necessary?

I don't live in Europe. I live in Brunei. We share the same style wall plugs.

Those Q pups might be what I'm looking for. Just managed to log into my Reverb account and shipping is the same. But it'll reach in 4 weeks. 4 miserable weeks. maybe more. Now I'm off to youtube to look for reviews on those pups. Thanks for the help, dude.
