Re: Cycling Thread
Loop, that's amazing. I should plan some races, but I've been eating and lifting big, so if I do, I won't end up winning anything. I've honestly thought I should try track cycling. I'm much more of a sprinter, but the track in Calgary is concrete, which is a little more than a slight deterrent. That, and it's about 45 mins away from home.
I'm really excited about this season. I got my bike do late last season and my wife was pregnant, so she couldn't really enjoy very long rides. I need to get a chariot and pull the little man all around the city. It might be time to get my wife a road bike too. She's been riding mine on the trainer and which
While she doesn't like the seat (I don't much either), she likes the gearing and smoothness.

Re: Cycling Thread
I took my '15 Roubaix into the shop for its annual about two weeks ago. I expect to hear back from them in a couple of weeks, but because I live in Wisconsin, and our roads aren't conducive to road riding in February, I'm in no hurry. Besides, my punching bag does what my bike can never do: actually work the upper body.
Next upgrade for the Roubaix: new computer, and actually get it right.
Next bike upgrade for me, hopefully: 2016 S-Works shoes. I tried both the Boa enclosure and the lace models in the shop, and I'm sold. They're leaps ahead of the 2009 model, which I purchased NOS in 2011. Unfortunately, they're also between $350-400, and that's way too much for a pair of shoes.

I am still wearing a pair of old Shimano M-110's I bought back in 1998. The sole is still stiff as a board and the leather is so soft and comfy.
The only upgrade I see happening for my Road Bike is a new wheel set. My MTB needs a new drivetrain and brakes.

I have something like 16 or 17 scheduled events and races scheduled for this year. Got a little zealous and decided to tag along on my buddys race season, even if I'm only riding some of these with the intention of simply finishing in one piece.
Training for 2016 has begun. Unless there's snow on the road, I'm riding outside, off the trainer!
awesome dude. i gotta get on it too.

What's your drivetrain setup? I've got an amazing wheelset sitting around that I'd probably sell. I was going to buy the adapter to adapt them to my new bike.
DT-Swiss 240 hubs and Mavic Reflex Ceramic Clinchers laced up with (mostly) butted spokes and brass nipples. I built them years ago and they still hold totally true. Just a wonderful, stiff, light wheelset. Laced up 3x front and back.
IIRC I used straight spokes (15ga un-butted) on the back wheel for the "pulling" spokes to minimize wind up.
I could run them with my 11spd drive train. All you have to do is buy the DT-Swiss freehub that fits the 11spd hub and pop it on.

20 Speed Ultegra.
I've been eyeing the Mavic Krsyriums. But, if I could score a old, but true pair of Rolf Vector Pro's, I would snatch them up. By todays standards they are certainly heavy. But they are also a very fast set of wheels. They carry speed amazingly well.

1. Grats on the babby.
2. If track racing is a thing that happens near you, do it. Report back.
3. I'm jealous of you if you're eating big. I'm on preseason diet right now, and it suuuuuuucks. Pretty much water, oatmeal, green salads, unseasoned lean chicken, and vodka tonics.

Gonna do 20 or 30mi sat, and again on sun this weekend.

I do wanna buy a commuter/flatbar. It'd be nice to not have to clip in to a FS Mountain bike or a blingy roadbike when I go for greenway rides or neighborhood rides with my kids.

Damn you guys are killing it in the offseason! Riding a trainer has proven to be straight up boring, I haven't been hitting it like I should. So stoked that the days are getting longer and I can almost start commuting to work again. To speed up the process, I have a set of Revolights en route to my house - HNBLD incoming! (happy new bike lights day).

I only managed 3 or 4 100+ mile weeks last year, but with races, it'll be way more this time.
Gonna do 20 or 30mi sat, and again on sun this weekend.
1) Thanks dude
2) Buying a new bike for a single purpose at a single venue doesn't really appeal to me, but I could probably get by with a cheapie for the time being
3) Yeah, I've got a 16lb bike and I'm approaching 200 lbs., so I'm sure you'd destroy me on any climb. Although it sounds like you'd have to go a ways to find a climb. That calorie deficit would make me grumpy indeed. That's fucking exciting and a lot of bloody work. I'm sure the lunch ride frequency will increase too.
Yeah, I'm not really limiting my intake, just trying to lift more often and do more cardio. I have eyes on a 500lb deadlift this year, so I don't really want to cut. With bike season in play, I don't think I'd make any gain on that in the summer, so I guess I have 3-4 months to gain 65lbs on my max...

18 miles today short ride. 20 degrees this morning. I'm an idiot and rode without shoe covers, and with cutoff gloves.
Numb level cold. Laid in front of my fireplace for like 45 minutes when I got back.

I purchased a Wahoo Blue SC, and the corresponding heart rate monitor. I've been meaning to do the heart rate thing, ever since I 'noided out with my Galaxy S5's heart rate sensor last September. Since my iPhone doesn't have a heart rate sensor out of the box, I have to use the external option.
Since, at the moment, I don't have a bike, I can't tell you anything about this sensor yet. The computer, strictly speaking, is a 64GB iPhone 6s+, with a bunch of music from Here Come the Mummies on it. And the first two Monkey Island games.

Re: Cycling Thread
I have the same wahoo sensor kit. It's great, and if you get a computer later that is Bluetooth, you can keep using those sensors.
I decided today that I'm selling some of my extra studio gear, and my Giant Trance 2, and getting a new MTB. I've been riding 26" instead of 29er like the rest of my group, since I'm super short, and I'm sick of working harder for similar output. 29ers feel WAY too big for me (I rented one in Vegas last year and hated it) so I'm gonna do a 650b/27.5. Wanna keep it under $3k...so I'm looking at Cannondale Habit4, Giant Anthem XS, Giant Stance 27-0, BMC Sportlite APS, and a few others.
Honestly the Habit4 is my favorite because of the lefty fork, but I'm not sure how I'll feel about a single pivot rear triangle after riding a Maestro for so long.
Ideally, I'll have the stuff sold, and this new one bought by spring, in time for race season.

Re: Cycling Thread
Damn, that thing looks mean as hell, Loop!
Got my lights installed on my bike over the weekend. I will admit, I wasn't too stoked on them at first, the directions were way overcomplicated and there was lots of trial and error. I also felt like the front light was blinding me even when my head was up and looking forward. I had an epiphany that the lights were on the wrong 1/3 of the wheel travel, and therefore I must have installed the hubs backward. Had the wife record my test run last night - they look pretty sweet! It still wont prevent me from getting hit by an asshole texting while driving, but at least they'll get a sweet light show as I go over the hood and roof...

I'd be interested to see the design of the front hub bolts. Single shear joints are a big no-no in the engineering world. It would be interesting to compare the feel too, because a single damper would have to allow twice the force of a single. Perhaps it would be harder to tune to get the air pressure right.

Just a PSA, Lynskey has a killer price on one of their sport/endurence Ti frames. I think it is the R120 or something. For like $1200.
Ti fucking rules over everything.

Got back on the bike today to start commuting again. I was getting prepped last night and realized my pump was missing the adapter for presta tubes, so I left it and my repair kit on the bench. Was feeling great on the ride, got 7 miles in, and realized I had a flat tire. Wife was already halfway to work, no one in the office to come pick me up, so I ended up walking the remaining 5 miles. LAME! Oh well, I picked up a new tube and pump on my lunch break so I can get back home.

Yikes!
Good to get back out there though, I bet.
I went out saturday for a 20 mile hop. Crazy winds, and I caught one at my back on a mild downhill and got up to 37. On a 35 road.

Fun to break speeding laws on a bicycle!

I really should fix up my CAAD8 for the impending season. I'll need to adjust the chain length as it was replaced before it went into storage and I'll probably need to replace all the cables too. Fun fun.
