So I record my guitar through a DI and use IRs for cab so I have to monitor the tone through the DAW. That works great and I have no latency issues at all.
However, when I am using a mic for vocals, I get a huge latency if I try to monitor my voice through the DAW. So right now, when recording vocals, I just monitor the track through the DAW and basically just hear my voice in my head
So in short:
guitar amp + IRs = no latency at all. vocal mic = latency
same ASIO settings and all.

Can't. Working on new music. I will be tired tomorrow but I don't care. Inspiration hits when it hits.
also, my project is called Owl Force One for a reason. I am definitely a night owl (with an early bird job).

It would. Actually that was one of the first names I considered but I found out there was already a few bands with that name.
As much as I like to stay up at night, I don't think I could work a night job again, I did it for a while and it was hard because nighttime is when I am at my most creative peak so I need some free time at night to write music.
I do get to sleep though... just weird hours. Today I already slept 6 hours from 7pm to 1am, now I am working on music until 5a and then I will sleep again until 7a. So it's still 8 hours, just 8 weird hours lol But that's the way I keep music and work going.

God bless. I crawl into bed at 4pm and get up at 930. Head to work at 1130. I am hoping to be off this shift soon. But either way I am always looking for a better situation that doesn't involve off shift work. Once I escape this, I will never ever do it again.
Anyway, what are you using for a audio interface? My Mackie Blackjack has a direct monitor on it. So I can put the headphone on and hear what's happening. But, that is before the DAW.
Steinberg UR22. It does have a mix knob for direct monitoring. I think you just solved my "problem".

That's with absolutely no effects or anything on the vocal track in the DAW but there's more latency? That's really weird. There should be even less latency than the guitar tracks with IRs since it has to process the IRs. But yeah, direct monitoring through the interface is a good workaround.
If your vocal track has comp, reverb, etc. turned on while you're monitoring, then that could be the issue. Reverb can eat up processing power and therefore increase latency by a lot.

Same here. I rarely have any desire to play guitar, record, or do anything remotely creative during the day. Nighttime is a different story. I really need to stop being lazy and just bring my damn guitar and interface to work.

I do have the desire to play during the day, I can jam or practice, no problem. But I can't really write anything during the day, every time I've tried I drew a blank..

I always get hit with riffs and more so, lyrics when I am out for a walk away from my guitars. I have, at times, pulled out my phone and hummed the melody into it.

Its weird how that it is. That was a source of frustration with Amy and I. I always wanted to write at like 3 am and she's trying to sleep. I'm getting my mancave set up in my new house ASAP so I don't disturb her but can still get my jams on. I should have done it in my current house, but the spare room is filled with random bullshit. Which is why I'm throwing all that shit away when we move.
I hate moving, but "starting over" with less shit is exciting.

I grew up surrounded by junk and clutter. Throwing things out is one of my favorite hobbies.
I've owned a house with a basement since 2000 and band practice was always at my house, so during my band playing years I would advocate for a 2am to 4am practice time. Roll out of bed at 1, set up my shit and be ready to roll by 2. Over a 13 year period I think it happened once.

I'm enjoying getting rid of things, buying closet organizers, and storage bins and shit, in order to make room for my mom moving in. My wife and I are already pretty "lean and mean" when it comes to being on top of shit in our house. This has forced us to take it up a notch, which is unnecessary in a general sense, but with the kids in the house it's having secondary benefits of being even more organized with all their shit too.

Yeah I can't live without a mancave/studio. My favorite time of the day is when everybody goes to sleep and I lock myself into my studio. Even if I am not writing or playing, I need that late night alone time. I'd be a very miserable person without my own space.

all I have now is a corner desk in my bedroom, an IRT studio, and some headphones....
