May seem pointless, but it gives pretty good pointers on how to change a terrible drum sound into something usable.
Pretty funny: turn a cardboard box into a kick drum sound

Post to check out after work.
A buddy of mine used a kick pedal and a cardboard box to record a kick drum.... sounded great!

That was actually very interesting. A lot of that can be applied to real snare and kick processing.
Now, I want the Kramer Saturator and the Soft Clip. Damn, I need more money!!!

People always go on and on about preamps and mics with a kick...
I've never NOT been able to get a decent kick sound. One of the easiest things to mix/manage if you're good with eq/compression/saturation.
Snare on the other hand...

There's tons of free ones that'll work the same.

Like GVST GClip, Softube Saturation Knob, Variety of Sound NastyVCS and FerricTDS etc etc.
But if you want a commercial saturation plugin I really recommend FabFilter Saturn. That plugin and what you can do with it is just mindboggling.
