JCA100HDM Tone capabilities?

Post by Geargas »

Hi guys. I'm new to forums in general so if I get this 1st post wrong, please straighten my noob a** out.
I'm looking for opinions as to whether or not the JCA100HDM, with EQ tweaking and a good OD out front, can get into XYZ Marc Diglio territory. So far I'm relying on the youtube demos which are good but nothing beats 1st hand opinions. The usual answer would be to go out and try one but I have nobody stocking these nearby.

welcome :) I am not familiar with the player you mentioned, but the HDM is a hell of an amp for hard rock, so it should do it without any issues (XYZ is 80's hard rock, IIRC?)
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

XYZ is 80s hard rock.
The JCA100HDM is based on a Soldano, which is one of the staple sounds of 80s hard rock.
I think you'll be in great shape with one.

Yeah...late 80's just before it all died really. I suppose his tone isn't far removed from EVH 1...just more "in your face".

Thanks. I was hoping given what I heard in those demos.

Should easily do 80's rock tones...And even more modern if you so desire. Those amps really sound great for the price... (I'm specifically talking about the 100H, as I haven't heard a HDM in person, though they are a few features away from being the same amp, if I recall correctly)

That's what I figured though I'm basing my assumption on youtube quality...specifically FRPonycar's demos, though the broadness of 80s rock tones is pretty wide, I'm partial to the monster tones of late 80s bands like XYZ, Stryper, Firehouse just to name a few. If I was cash laden I'd go the proper route and drop the boatload on an old Marshall and go with the mods but that's not an option. For the price of the HDM, I'd settle for close. I like the fact that it seems to be able to go from old school 80's (think early Def Leppard) right on into somewhat modern territory. Can anyone confirm or deny what my ears hear on youtube?

Seems like you've done your homework and you're right on the money man, this amp will do exactly what you want. I've owned a 100H for a while and was very happy with it and had no issues at all with that amp. Go for it, you will not regret it.

Since you mentioned Firehouse, the guitarist Bill Leverty used the Yamaha T50 amps (Soldano design - I suppose slightly similar to the Soldano/Jet City tone). I would say the Jet City amps (or the Soldano tone in general) is taking the 80's hard rock tone and making it just a little more modern sounding, picking up where Marshall left off so to speak. So many bands/guitarists used Soldanos in the late 80's. Queensryche, EVH, Ratt, Motley Crue, Lynch Mob, list goes on.

FRPC's demos are spot on in terms with JCA tone. I have his Lynchbacks he used for a couple demos, and I can get my JCA/Lynchback setup to mimic the same sound from his demos. The HDM will not disapoint!

Thanks guys. Pretty much a done deal then. I've taken into consideration the list of compatible effects posted in a different section. If anyone has any amendments to those I'd be interested in knowing what will (or definitely won't) work well in the loop.

This next buy is going to be a tough sell. Already have an amp and have been heard claiming I wasn't planning to buy anything else right now. She's right of course but the buy WILL happen and I WILL suffer the consequences. Of course there's the justification of selling the other head to partially fund the new one....sound familiar??? :idk:
