Hammer dropped: Bare Knuckle Nailbombs on the way

Post by thefyn »

Picked up a pair of used black covered alnicos for my black LP studio.

I figured if I am going to upgrade my cables to evidence, my strings to cobalts etc etc the stock pup is the last in the chain that I havent tweaked.

I pretty much drove myself insane watching youtube vids of 100's of pickups and snapped, bid and won on the nailbombs.

Anyone have experience with them?

I enjoyed my old Nailbomb set. Similar tone and feel to a JB, but it had richer harmonics and was dead quiet. Kind of like a cross between a JB and a Custom.

I had one in the bridge of my Les Paul Standard and loved it. I only took it out to experiment with different pickups. I seriously need to put it back in.

I have one in the bridge of my Ibanez S series, a great pup! I went off it for a while, but now I really enjoying playing it again. BKP's cost a lot to import if you are over seas, but they are worth it. I have them in several guitars. I'm even getting a set of Crawlers put into my custom Jag.

Will I need to change my pots since it is going in a LP? Someone said I might want to do it on the BKP forum.

"You may want to change the pots out to 500k as i think most gibsons come with 300k pots."

500k will have a little more high end right? I'll install them as is and if it's muddy I'll probably upgrade. I was just wondering if it was the norm?

I always thought humbuckers came pretty much standard with 500k pots and single coil pups came with 250k. Some people are having 1M pots put in with their humbuckers. It lets more highs through - allows for longer cable runs. YMMV.

Top notch pups. I've owned several different ones and post on the BKP's forum. If you decide to get any and are stuck on which ones, shoot them an e-mail and Tim (CEO of BKP's) will get back to you (or one of his team, it usually is Tim though). The forum's are worth checking out as well for advice.
