Converting videos to MP3 only

Post by Reverse Entropy »

Looking for a good tool to strip the video stream out of music videos found all over the web. I can usually save them into MP4 or FLV video. What I need to do is strip out the video and convert the audio into a player friendly MP3.

I've only tried VLC and it doesn't seem to work (plays but nver generates a converted file).

It would be a slow process, but some DAWs will let you set the recording input to the sound card's output (usually called "Stereo Mix"). Then you just make sure that input monitoring is NOT on, arm the track and start recording, then start playing the video.

Any particular reason you want to do that? YouTube videos are usually encoded in pretty low bitrates and a lot of the audio rips are just done badly on top of that.

Yeah. it was sort of the path of least resistance among bandmembers for working up new songs. I tried sending everyone the MP3s and incomprehensibly, that hasn't worked. :freak: Everyone is able to successfully interact with YT though.

SO, I want to rip the YT version we're all working from and dump the MP3 audio from it onto my mini player, or onto a USB stick to play in the car [idiot singing at stoplight] or from my laptop when I'm practicing. It's just a crude backing track, sound quality is not vital. Most of the videos I can download as either MP4 or FLV.

But the easy way isn't turning out to be that easy.

Use a tool called jDownloader. All you have to do is copy the link to your clipboard, and it will separate out the tracks for you (audio, video) - according to how the video was recorded (so sometimes it will be m4a audio instead of mp3)

I use a program called Free FLV Converter. Download the video as an FLV, extract audio.
