Heard a clip of Leslie West using a budda that sounded pretty tough

Never played one, but it seems like people either love em or hate em. I've heard they can have a harsh, scratchy top end... also heard they sound like a thicker, chewier plexi. I'm sure it's highly dependent on the speakers and the user though, of course.
I was thinking about buying an SD18 a few years ago, but was put off by the price since there's tons of other el84 18 watters out there.

Very limited clips on YT of this amp but it has always intrigued me.
Maybe I just like the color purple
Haven't tried the 80. Owned the 18 for a few weeks & sold it, thinking it wasn't "me." That was six or seven years ago, and it's haunted me ever since. If my last amp finally sells, I'm SO close to buying one again, even though I already passed on it before ... and prolly won't like it again. I ... I got prollems...
Anyway, sorry I couldn't help you.

What I've gathered thus far is that yes, it is damn loud for an 80watt amp and yes it is voiced like a beefed up Plexi and a boost pedal makes it sound heavenly.
As with any other brand of amp, some people don't jive with it. Harsh and shrill high-end is the common complaint.
