INCOMING!!!! Can't freakin' wait!

Post by TU BE »

This should be delivered to my work on Wednesday! I will probably put creme pickups in it in short order. I've always wanted a goldtop! AMS had em on sale so I jumped. How is the "baked maple"? I'm actually looking forward to trying it as I prefer maple boards to rosewood usually. I'll give you guys a report after I receive her and spend some time fingering her.

Why yes. Yes I have been.

The only reason I could spend the cash on this was cuz my singer bought my SS22. My girl was like, "why can't you just take that money and save it?" To which I replied, "you are with a guitar player. This is what we do."

Love goldtop LPs. Congrats. Let us know how you like the fretboard. I haven't run across one of those yet (I have made a all-out effort to stay out of gear stores - the web gives me plenty of GAS as it is).

I will be taking the creme DiMarz 36 annys out of my custom and putting them in this thing. That gives an excuse to buy new pick ups for the custom.

I'm not really sure about the baked maple yet. My studio has the BM board and it sounds kinda thin and bright compared to my standard with the rosewood. I doubt its the pickups because I have a Dirty Fingers in the bridge.

Well, guess I'll find out. I don't mind the bright play thru a recto.

Let us know your thoughts on the baked maple. I have read a few posts about the baked maple fading a bit when oiling the neck but I have been wanting to jump on one of these myself.

Sweet! I've got a 60s gold top tribute - the one with the p90s. I love it, plays really well, really solid sound too.

I have this same exact guitar. Bought it through Sweetwater when they were running a similar sale and got an insane deal on it. It's weight relieved so it's pretty light but the sustain is still there and it rings out nicely even when playing it acoustic. Fit and finish on mine was very very good and no shit I could not find one flaw on the guitar anywhere. Gibson is stepping it up on their newer guitars. Wasn't that long ago that Studios had a ton of factory blems when you picked one up but it seems like they have addressed this. The baked maple fretboard is not bad at all, I didn't know how I'd feel about it to tell you the truth. It's brighter than rosewood, very tight grained and kind of reminds me of that smooth fast feel of ebony. I put a fret rocker on it and there were only a few frets that weren't perfectly level and they were only slightly high and don't cause any fret buzz. Nut height was perfect but I think they cut it with the plek machine, not sure if they use it on the frets too for the studios or not. Mine came setup and perfectly in tune right outta the box, the only thing I did was lower the action a hair and change the strings to what I normally use. All in all a great guitar for a great price and ya gotta love the classic look of the goldtop....best looking studio in my opinion. I put straplocks on mine and I'll eventually throw locking tuners on it and change out the pickups but that's just preference. The 490/498 combo isn't bad just not my cup of tea...want something a little more articulate. Thinking about putting a seymour custom in the bridge and a pearly gates in the neck. Oh and playing mine through a dual rec too....sounds kickass! Enjoy it man!!!!
