With a maple board.

Got it yesterday. RG2228MWH Prestige...these are brand new.

I need to tweak the intonation a bit, but this thing is really nice. I'm not using it for chugs so far, just piano style clean tapping, and I really love it. I have a chapman stick, but the tuning/string orientation never really vibed with me, and I like tapping on this better.

Thinking about getting another one for metal, and removing all the strings except for the low F#, and all the frets but the first 4.

Yes! He is a beast!!!!

I should have a vid up, and some more pics this week. Intonated it, and the tunes are writing themselves on this thing. Sooooooo happy. I think I've played it about 3 hours total so far since Thursday, and haven't touched a pick yet lol. The action/radius/profile makes it an AWESOME touchstyle guitar.

Holy Shit!!!

The NAMM hasn't even started yet and you already got one of these!!!!! Congrats, sir!!!

I have the black RG2228A with D-Activators.

What tuning is yours in?
Did you have a hard time getting the 8th string intonation right? I sure did on mine, had to lower the action a bit and pull the saddle as far back is it went, intonation is better now, but on the highyer frets it's still a bit off, though.

i think its funny when people marvel at the low frequencies. there these things out there called "bass" guitars, you see...

i do want to mess with a properly setup 8 string some time.

I have played Meshuggah 8 string guitar riffs on a bass before, in the same octave. It ain't the same, brah.

Love the look of that white w/maple board combo.

Wouldn't mind trying an 8, but I imagine I'd have to go for one of the scummy lower end models. Those 2228s aren't cheap. :(

When it comes to Electric Red "it ain't the same" means better. Playing the intro riff on bass is fun, especially if you sludge up the bass tone a bit.

Yep. Got it early. In fact, maybe I shouldn't have posted about it yet lol. Oh well, This is a small forum still, hopefully I won't get smacked for it. :)

Mine is tuned standard F#BEADGBE. Intonating the low F# was tricky, and like you, I had to back the saddle out pretty much all the way. It's pretty dead on now though. :-bd

Also, I know I said I bought it for touchstyle, but you can't NOT play heavies on it. I shot this real quick last night:

It was needed for a photoshoot, and then Dev needed to borrow it for something IIRC, according to my hookup at Peavey. They're still in really short supply, so I totally don't mind.

All that's done now, so I'm arranging to get it back soon.

Ohh, that's awesome! I was thinking there might have been some sort of issue with it

Awesome clip, man, I especially like the intro!!!

Did yours come on that tuning stock? That is weird, mine came half step down stock, also I think it said that on the Ibanez website.
It might be easier to intonate the 8th string when in standard tuning, or would that half step not really make a big difference?
What gauge strings are on yours? The stock strings with an .065 for the 8th string?

I haven't checked with calipers, but I thought the low f# was a .74.

Intonation definitely is different within a half step!

It's really no different than playing a six. Those six strings are still there! :)

You just have two more below them. REALLY handy when you're playing an arp/phrase that would require a ton of movement up and down the neck. You can just go ACROSS. More economical for some stuff, actually.

Thanks, man!

This year Ibanez is really killing me, all those new guitars, a 7-string jazz box, that 8-string you got, the two Vai 7-strings, the saber 8-string, etc, etc.....how am I gonna pay for all of that, and more importantly: how am I gonna explain it to the g/f.....she is already very unhappy about all the Ibanez cases that are stacked up in our living room....

Haha... maybe not so much that one. If they got rid of the stupid hole thing, got rid of the vine inlay, maybe even gave the hardware a white powdercoating, then maybe I'd be interested. ;)

But the 7-string hollow body and 8-string S-series definitely sound interesting.
