So I recently built a new computer/hackintosh.
Everything is working as it should (i'm typing from it right now) but I've encountered an issue with my Presonus software and hardware.
I've installed the newest drivers and virtual mixer software (they call it the VSL) as well as the recording software ( Studio One) that I've been using for a bit more than a year on my mac mini. It worked great on there sans a few hiccups.
So after installing the VSL and drivers, I gave it a run through using my KRK8's, The sound was there, but there was distortion and a clipping like sound present through ANY audio, regardless of the source.
I proceeded to install the Studio One software, and was having the same issue.
I was perplexed. I figured it was a driver or USB problem.
After lots of tinkering, I finally fixed the issue by adjusting the "USB Driver Performance" setting within the VSL. This is a latency buffer setting. It was set at "Fast" which basically means no latency and lots of CPU usage. I set this to "Safe" which is obviously the least CPU intensive setting, and THE CLIPPING AND NOISE WENT AWAY!!! YAYY!
Except this leaves me wondering what is really going on. My computer is as follows;
GIgabyte Z87M-D3H mobo
Intel Quad Core I5
16 GB of Corasir ram
250 gb Samsung SSD
I can't believe that this computer can't handle setting that's worked on my 3 year old mac mini.
Any ideas?
Presonus and new computer aren't playing well. Ideas?
