I'm kinda gutted by the news. This band is the real reason I play guitar at all.

No.
A simple "No." doesn't suffice on this one. I may be inclined to agree with you, but at least come up with a band whose dna is more widespread in music today.
I know one or two I'd thow out whose dna is pretty apparent in the Ramones themselves. And don't say the Beatles, too obvious (because it's true).

Re: R.I.P. Tommy Ramone
I never listened to a ton of Ramones, oh, I certainly listened to some, but I didn't have a bunch of albums or anything. But I listened to tons of bands directly descended from them.
Its sad they're gone.

Sucks man. He seemed like a really cool guy. I'm a big fan of the Ramones. Mixing 50's pop and the attitude of punk was a brilliant idea and truly original.

First it was Joey. Johnny shortly thereafter. Then Dee Dee. So fast within each other. Now all these years later, Tommy. RIP to all Ramones. I'll be jammin' Rocket To Russia tonight.

Re: R.I.P. Tommy Ramone
This is truly sad. As simple as their tunes were they were the predecessor for a lot of the music I love, and having gone back and listened to a ton of them over the last couple decades, they really had something magic about them.
It's rough thinking that all of them are gone.

Re: R.I.P. Tommy Ramone
A bummer but the Ramones I personally cared about have all been dead for a bit now.
I don't know what punk would have looked like without these guys, we all owe a lot to them in the genre.
