Their style of doing things really opens new ways to think about mixing (or very old ways actually).
No sample replaced drums or midi keyboards there.

Pretty surprising how he said the Nirvana drums are just two mics, kick and one overhead. But maybe I misunderstood since there's clearly stereo panning on the cymbals on Nevermind.

I missed him saying that about Nirvana.
But he did say that eventualy he would use other mics as he sees fit, so maybe that was the case back then?

Maybe it was just how he likes to mic drums and I somehow confused the two. The Nevermind album was recorded there when it was still owned by someone else and called Sound City afaik.
