Despise The Sun

Post by SenatorClayDavis »

Listening to this record whilst doing some gardening tonight - admittedly after a few beers - and goddamn if I don't want to reiterate that it's the finest death metal record ever created. Funeral Inception is so fucking great... I defy anyone to resist the "God forbid.... God forbidden" part, all the way through to Catatonia (possibly the heaviest song ever recorded). Maybe it's the short length that makes it so irresistible, but the production is rock solid, and the songs are so furious, I just can't think of a better DM record. Challenge me! There is no greater death metal record!

Yeah I don't know about the best DM album ever. Pierced easily destroys it and I think some old Morbid Angel and Deicide albums give it a run for its money.

Well that's a bold statement - Pierced is a great record, and to a degree it's apples and orange given one's an EP and one's an album, and perhaps that gives DTS an unfair advantage since it's going to have more bang for the buck given its short length, but on an overall average awesomeness-per-minute rating I still think it beats anything Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, or anyone else has put out. Just my opinion though.

I don't think so. Amongst suffo fans it's pretty much agreed that pierced was their high point. I remember talking to Frank and Terrence at a show one time and they asked me what my favorite album of their was, at the time I was feeling Effigy and everybody there looked at me like I was crazy because most people usually says pierced. Don't get me wrong I like despised but it technicality isn't a full length album anyway.
