I love mark iv but sadly i got tired of playing distortion and moved onto fuzz and the mark iv doesn't handle my BAT pharaoh fuzz very well =(( The mark iv is my dream amp but i feel that i won't get back into distortion, yet i know i'll regret it if i sell it. I'm thinking about trying 6v6's in it

Which mark is your fav between the III and IV? What would you say is the main difference between them?

Thanks

Fuck you all for reminding me how much I miss my DC-5. That was one hell of an amp.

I'll start by saying I only use the lead channels, just to get that out of the way.

All those amps are sex beyond sex.

I can't really pick a favorite, they are all great.

As far as IIIs vs IVs, the III is more aggressive sounding and brighter. The IV is more modern and dark sounding. The III sounds very similar to to what I would describe as the ultimate hod rodded Marshall sound when cranked the fuck up. As you get louder the amp gets nastier and meaner sound like a Marshall does when you crank it. The IV is really modern and clear sounding, with the top end blunted way off like a 3 gear spawn quick rod, and almost seems to get cleaner sound the more you crank it until it bottoms out and starts sounding boxy.

Red stripe vs Blue stripe, the reds power section seems a little bit more open and powerful, and the Blues preamp is a tad more aggressive and modern sounding.

The 2 Mark IVs sound damn near identical, but I just seem to like the long head better, it just seems less boxy and more open, but that could just be placebo. I don't know.
My collection:

Mesa (Mark IV long and short head, Mark III red and blue stripe, Dual Rec 2 channel Rev G and Tremoverb)

Marshall (2203x, 2203KK, DSL50, JVM410)

Peavey (Butcher, VTM 120, Ultra 120, 6505)

Odd balls (Splawn Quickrod and EVH 5150III)

^^^ I really wish I had that kind of Mesa cab. I like the slant baffle that recesses like that. Jelly.

I got a Mark III (red stripe) simulclass that i dig quite a bit. It's been my main amp for quite some time now. Before it i used a .50 caliber + which is also a pretty cool amp.

I just use the amp for the lead and R2. I don't use any really really clean tones in my band, just heavy and a crunch tone. When i'm playing something that's a little more subtle i'll use r2 for a kinda ac/dc tone, and when i wanna bring the hammer down i use the lead channel... that's mainly where i stay cause 90% of our music is heavy, downtuned doomy stuff. R2 is actually very nice on my Mark III (a lot of people complain about it). I think it responds well to pick attack... it cleans up or sounds pretty aggressive all by adjusting my pick attack and rolling the volume knob on my guitar.
