Progressive Hipster Rock...?

Post by Telephant »

Not sure what else to call these guys but... Amy is really into this band White Denim, so we saw them last night at Stubbs. I was pleasantly surprised. These dudes are players. And lots of Gibson on stage. Lead player rocked a Gold Top and what looked like a Fender Deluxe or Twin. Rhythm section was equally incredible. Check 'em out:

Damn - came in expecting something that I would hate and that is not the case here. Pretty awesome and I even liked the vocals.

Also that lead tone through (and after) the bridge is nice and nasty.

...because it sounds like old rock

Thread title painted a picture of something I didn't think I would like but it was really good. Good musicianship and catchy riffing with really solid vocals.

See thats how I get ya to open the thread. You see the title, are immediately disgusted and prepared to talk some shit, then you listen and are pleasantly surprised. :hi5:

And they're from Austin. I've known about them for years but I blew them off thinking they were typical Austin Hipster Noise Rock. I was wrong.

Cool riff in this one:

I love the guitar tone. Sounds like an LP into a blackface Deluxe. These dudes jam too. They had some cool improvised moments last night.

That song Come Back is groovin' as fuck. Sounded great last night too. The lead player wears his LP up high like me. Had all kinds of control and was doing some very fast and awesome runs.

Wow, loving that track. Thanks for the tip, guys. This band is a real treat.
