Deafheaven Anyone?
I am really digging the hell out of the album they just put out. Really unique and cool thing they're doing. I can only describe it as kind of a mix between black metal and shoegaze or post rock

Re: Deafheaven Anyone?
Necro'ing this thread cause I finally got around to listening to this record and
wow!
Not really into black metal so that's why I never really gave it a chance, but holy smokes what an album. The post-rock elements are awesome and the black metalish moments work well too. It's actually upping my tolerance for BM (I'm easing into it - digging the Vattnet Viskar record too).

Re: Deafheaven Anyone?
Well they're in a tricky spot appeal-wise - they make a style of music that is unlistenable to most people, but they've crafted their image to be as off-putting as possible to people that are into BM. Looking at that album cover and the song titles, it certainly doesn't seem very CVLT, and the lead singer looks like he should be in an A&F catalog or something.
But Sunbather showed up on a lot of "best albums of 2013" lists, so I think the hurdle (as was the case with me) is getting over one's preconceived notions about what the record will be. Also is one of those albums that works best as a complete album rather than individual tracks.

This is awesome. Really cool.
Re: Deafheaven Anyone?
Hah I put them up in one of the threads a few months ago for one of my picks for best albums of the year. Awesome stuff. There're going to be in town soon with BTBAM and Intronaut, I'm planning on going to that show.

It always cracks me up when I see black metal fans online getting so enraged over this band

Don't black metal fans get enraged about everything? (Likes some black metal, but probably not CVLT or TRVE or whatever enough. The BM butthurt is always funny.) I'll check this out.
